Dipo, I don’t follow FIFA football too much, more MSL in the US. I also worked for a German company for many years, including the year the Germans played in the finals. Let’s just say, we couldn’t get ahold of anyone in Germany that day because they were all watching the game. I’d follow the World Cup games over the years because it was fun to talk with the German colleagues about it. So, I’m kind of aware of the historically strong FIFA countries. Iran had beat a really good team, so they appeared to be a strong team.

Wow! I just heard on tv that Iranians in their country are cheering that USA won.
Plus, the Iranian team didn't sing the their national anthem and there is a very good chance they can be arrested and even killed by their government when they go back home. It's all very sad.

Did you see where the US player gave his hand to help an Iranian player to his feet. I think it was near the end of the game. But, good sportsmanship.

Grant Wahl, one of the US sports reporters in Qatar, has died. His brother says he was killed. He had been reporting on some sensitive topics, like the Qatar migrant workers. Also, he tried to get into the stadium with a Prude T-shirt on. He has a podcast, where he had said he was not feeling well. He was stricken during the Netherlands Argentina game, given CPR and died.
He was one of, if not the premier soccer reporter in the US.
