Whoa!! Sahara dust in Texas? I know it blows all over the world, but dang.
We encountered Sahara dust once on a cruise ship, but we were off the coast of Africa at the time.
But, you know, come to think of it, there was a time Bigdog and I were staying in a hotel in San Antonio, and we got up around sunrise, and opened the curtains, and it was the most spectacular sunrise I have ever seen, all red and orange and yellow all over the entire sky. That was probably around 30 years ago.

This time of year there is a jet stream that runs east to west over Northern Africa and the Atlantic. Brings the Caribbean and the US two things. One, kind of the minor one is Sahara dust. Southern Florida and much of the more southern parts of the southern states get the dust. Once it gets into the Gulf of Mexico the typical southeast to northwest winds push the dust into Texas. Two, it is this same jet stream that pushes weather systems out of Africa and across the Atlantic that become tropical storms and hurricanes in the Caribbean and US.

LOL, Sadiesmom, I just closed the windows and put on the AC ... WE have clear blue skies with a small breeze, temps going up to 88 (or 90 as Steve P said).

Send the cool weather and rain this way! We’re at something like 16 straight days at 100F or higher and not a drop of rain. Not quite up to the record of 100F+ days but the record was set in August not June. 🙁 And we still are dealing with the Sahara dust.

At least when I went to bed, they were super lucky that the winds were blowing away from that large apartment complex, away from structures and we didn't have Santa Ana winds. They had 4 helicopters dropping water. Not sure how it went after that as I've been distracted with multiple other issues today so far, no news. The only thing nearby besides the apartments was a dog park at the edge of the apartments where people might have been at the start of the fire. The Coyote Fire.
