It's so strange. The Kentucky Derby is back at its usual time this year.

My bet is on Essential Quality. For the Kentucky Derby I only bet on the gray horses.

The horse with my SIL's name won. Medina Spirit. I wonder what Medina thinks about that.

Not a fan of racing (apologies to those who are but I have seen too much horror). And now this: Horse racing’s Triple Crown season veered into confusion on Sunday morning upon the news that Medina Spirit, the Kentucky Derby winner, tested positive for an excessive presence of betamethasone, an anti-inflammatory drug permitted only in certain amounts. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2021/05/09/kentucky-derby-winner-medina-spirit-positive-test-bob-baffert/ And it's not the first time for this trainer.

Golden Tempo came from last place to win the Derby. The jockey, Ortiz won his first Derby by beating his brother who placed second. Best of all, it’s the first time a woman trainer’s horse won the Derby. It was a pretty exciting race of about 2 minutes with about 3 hours of ‘fluff’ beforehand that I didn’t watch. https://www.nbcnews.com/sports/horse-racing/live-blog/kentucky-derby-2026-live-updates-rcna341955

I'm trying not to post how many horses have died in this awful industry in the US, but can't help myself. Over 12,000 in the past ten. 20 at Churchill Downs alone in the past year. I'm sorry, I can't celebrate a woman engaging in blood sport for animals.
