I know someone who had a similar accident on a bike. It changed how he lived his life. Formerly, very active.... now quire sedentary. And he was a physical therapy, so knew how to treat the injury.

Yikes - my dad just had this same surgery - 18" incision from tailbone to top of ribs and rod up length of back (which is actually little sections of a rod, each piece held in place w/at least 2 screws coming in from side - and then stapled back with like 40 staples!) Dad is about 4 weeks out and he is walking w/a walker but wow, it's a LONG hau,l and he can never lift anything over 10#s ever again - so if Simon's is like my dad's, he's in for a long haul.

I feel bad for him. His life was going so well, he’d lost weight and seemed to be taking good care of himself and enjoying his life and time with his family. This is rough.

With my friend, he was up and walking pretty quickly. They want to get them moving with PT. It was not much to start. Just don’t want him to be sedentary. But, he was also wearing a back brace from his tail bone to his neck.

Same, Kookliebird. Dad has a brace that wraps around his entire back/stomach area and hooks over his shoulders. Walking is the only thing they can do, but it starts right away. PT isn't even allowed for 8-12 weeks.
