That's a wonderful picture, Mame. Those conventions are so much fun! So many of the celebrities there enjoy interacting with the fans. Plus all the cosplay is a hoot! I love the enthusiasm.
So sad about Pete Frates.

I was watching Nightline from Monday late night and it was all about Pete.. He was diagnosed before he and his then girlfriend got married. He was 27. He told her he wouldn't hold her to the commitment. She says it was a very short conversation where she basically said shut up.
His prognosis was about 3 years. He lasted 7, started the ice bucket challenge which has raised $115 million and funded studies that seem to be helping people. Too late for him.
Three new drugs, five genes..
Anyway when I was posting I had such a sad, painful lump in my throat...

Sure, but a 34 year old dad just hits me harder than the most beloved 95 year old actor.
When I trained for rape crisis hotline, one of the most active volunteers who helped train is was a mom of four, wife to a fireman and then after several years she was not around but much of our work was from home on the phone, or at hospitals or with small groups. We heard she was concentrating on 4 teenagers.
Meanwhile we had a new exec director. I was at the office to co lead my first support group, with a more experienced volunteer, and saw a memo that announced the passing of this young, vibrant woman, of ALS.
I guess that lunch in the but has affected me for years.
But yes. Pete was able to advance treatment for those following him and I do celebrate that.

One of my favorite actors, Rutger Hauer, passed way last summer, July 19, 2019.
My heart sank when I heard.
