I understand your reluctance to leave this job,it is so hard to find one that does not cause one stress today. I always found it difficult to interview when I already had a job. At one job, I had a problem with the IRS, so I dressed up to I could look strong in a suit and when to the IRS office and got the problem fixed (I was accumulating fines for owing them 0 dollars and 0 cents, the fines were in the hundreds of dollars). when I got back tothe office, the manager snottily asked me how my interview went. heh Congrats on getting a job closer to home, it makes a huge difference, you deserve to be close.

Thanks. I finally talked to my boss and he is very disappointed. It is nice to know that he will miss me when I'm gone (he had gone through numerous assistants before I came along and for the first year I would have walked out almost every day but eventually we established a good working relationship). I just keep telling myself I only have 8 more days and then I'm out of here...LOL! And I will continue to treat him with dignity and respect and work hard. Thank all of you for the support. It means a lot.

I saw a thing on the news this morning that talked a group that you can call to come and fill up your car so that you don't have to go to the gas station. I wasn't paying that much attention (I was sortof sleeping, LOL) so I don't know if it is something that exists (other than TripleA) or a plan. It is supposed to be like GrubHub in that they deliver a full tank of gas to you. I swear eventually people will never leave their homes to do anything. Has anyone else heard of this?

That’s an interesting service Dipo. Now that I’m semi-retired most of what little work I get is done at home so my driving has dropped off significantly. What little driving I do now is running errands like groceries, dry cleaning, home repair/maintenance, and the occasional lunch with friends. I have to pass gas stations on most of the routes in and out of our community so the notion I need or want somebody to fill up my car so I can run my errands. If I wasn’t driving I wouldn’t need a car much less somebody to bring me gas.

It might be helpful for a senior citizen who was fearful of getting out at a gas station...or there are times at work when I get here with barely fumes left in my tank but can't stop because I don't want to be late...and then I know I have an errand to run right after work so I don't want to stop on my way home...but I'm way too cheap for what a service like that would cost...LOL! I can see businessmen using that service though because in their thoughts time is money.

Dipo, Sometimes I agree about that, that soon, no one will ever have to leave the house, but then I got ill and everything got wacky, When I got home from my stay at the hospital, one of the things I feared but longed for the most was my freedom/independence..because both' have always been on my side. I wanted so badly to get in my car and drive it, it had been parked for over a month, just walking out and turning the key made me crazy... But I eventually did it and survived. But I was also on empty and needed gas, so one of the first things I had to do was go to the gas station. It was so scary for me. So having that service I can see' would really help certain people that really need some help. I would have ever even thought about that before and 'think that we have become a lazy nation', but now I kinda have a different view, sometimes we just need help and maybe a push...Yep, I am a older person, not ancient but 62 and I have come to realize that we can ask for help.. Crazy how things change when we are older and helpless... Doing fine here though and thankful...

I am grateful I can still gas up the car and drive and help those who cannot drive.

I can see how this might be a good service for those other than older folks or people who need more help with stuff like getting gas. I can't see using this type of service on a regular basis for us, but...when Darren works the day shift, he leaves the house around 330 am and even he has stopped getting gas that early since they had a robbery gone wrong at his normal gas station and a couple customers were shot and killed (or one was killed.) Dakota helps out my sis and bil by driving their girls to/from school and one of our rules (besides seatbelts, no cell phones, no screwing around while driving) is no stopping to get gas first thing in the morning when it may still be dark or darkish out. It's not that we live in a bad area or the gas station is scary, but that she is a 19 year old young woman and other than the clerk in the store, there's not that many people around the gas station that early in the morning. I'd pay a little more to avoid Kota having to stop first thing in the morning. We do make sure the cars have enough gas to wait til later in the day or for Darren to have enough to get to work and fill up on the way home. But, sometimes you can't plan for everything.

Thankfully you cannot pump your own gas in Oregon and our gas is no more expensive than other states. I think the only other state is New Jersey.

Wish I lived in Oregon, OG. MA has both self-serve and full-serve stations but full-serve stations are getting harder & harder to find, few & far between. I've never in my life pumped my own gas & I never will as long as there is a full-serve station anywhere in my vicinity.

I live in Oregon and prefer to pump my gas. Love it when I go to a state when I can. It's so much faster to get in and out there.

Wargod, I cant believe Kota is 19' "oh where has the time flown".. A lot of my family live in Oregon and I remember (one of my first visits way back when) trying to pump my own gas one time when I was driving up there, Boy oh boy did I get schooled on that real quick. I kept telling the guy, "No, I can do it, and he said, No you cant, its the law" Actually I liked it, they washed my windows, all that stuff that we use to get way back in the day, (everywhere) It was really nice.

I can certainly see that there are some occasions that it would be very helpful it someone could come and fill up your car but it sure didn't sound like a service that would be needed enough to be a successful business. Chewpito, so glad you are getting out and about, but don't forget there is TaskRabbit and other groups that can help with chores while you are there. I bet they would come with you and pump the gas at the station. What is the reason it's a law in Oregon that you can't pump your own gas?

According to mentalfloss.com, Oregon (and New Jersey) lawmakers don't trust John Q. Public not to blow themselves up at the gas pump. Apparently because there is a possibility that someone could accidentally spark off a fire they believe it is a job better left to professionals.

Oh my, hahahahahaha, that is too funny Roxip. OMG, I am still laughing. I can't remember the last time I heard of a gas station blowing up, I know there was one around here sometime but I think it was because a car hit the pumps.

These laws apparently date back to the 40s and 50s...I think now the design of gas pumps has changed drastically and make them much less likely to blow!

I always understood that it was a job protection thing. With all the folks that complain about how self scanning at the grocery stores ends jobs, feels like the same idea. ETA: however, it looks like as of January 2018, if you live in a rural area, you can pump your own gas now.

actually, I have a story for you about the gas thing, About a yr ago I was waiting for my turn, behind a car, but the lane right next to me had a suv "with the sun window on top wide open, It was summer..he was finished getting gas and getting ready to leave, I could not believe what I saw next, The guy had forgotten to remove the hose from the tank and started the engine and started to go, It yanked the hose right out and pulled it from the machine, the hose swung on top just started spouting out gas like a faucet into the SUV, It just went on and on...I freaked out and thought I need to get the hell outa here really quick, The attendant did something and turned it off, but it seriously poured into the guys car for at least a full minute or more, I was in shock. There was no explosion or anything, but I kept thinking what the hell was that guy going to do with his car, I would never drive a car that had been litterly drenched in Gas....So crazy.. Thank you Dipo, I am doing much better, Taking things slow but getting back to life. My Brother hired someone to mow my lawn for a few months, I am so thankful.

I just don't want to get out of my car in the rain and snow. I find that when I drive south and there are no full service stations which I would pay for, the gas pumps are all so different in different states, what works in one does not work in another. I really betgged a guy to come out and show me howto use the pump but he would not leave and there were no other customers around, finally a woman came in and said, I see you are from New Jersey, do you need help. bless her heart.

Y'all have got me thinking about something I could get going in my over 55 community of 123 condo/townhomes. I could call it LittleThings and could be something I could easily do (for free) for somebody else in my condo community, like go get gas, or even pick up their mail from the clubhouse. Walk their dog on a rainy day. Little things.

My friend has a dog walker and I am always interested, so are friendly with her and others dont even say hi, I think some of the groups that do the "take care of things" are not always doing it the right way.
