Not YouTube itself that I know about. Are you clicking links from YouTube?

No, just watching stuff. I hardly ever click on anything, I even deleted our Associations CPA's request because I didn't recognize her, LOL. I have been trying to figure out which sites are setting off the most alarms. Oh, could it be facebook? I do click on those notifications when they pop up. I know pch.com does, even my computer guy told me that, but if I start getting a bunch from them I just get out and do something else. So I have also noticed it when I am on Youtube.

Well, I did a reinstall from a system image I created a year ago. My Office Professional 2016 is still there, but already I am getting lags and freezes, and the mouse is wonky. So I am guessing I will be getting a popup anytime soon telling to immediately call an 855 number. Sigh ... Okay, then next question. If I do the reinstall that wipes out everything, is there another way to preserve the Office software if I don't have installation discs? I do have a product key that I extracted by using Belarc Adviser, BUT I bought this machine used from a refurbisher, and I suspect he owns the key, and I won't be able to use his key. Seems like I ran into that before with another computer.

I don't think you can preserve Office if you completely reinstall everything. However, an annual license for Office is about $100 and it's good for multiple computers and devices. Might be worth considering.

Juju, do you not have automatic backup on your Windows system that allows you to restore to a previous date? ETA: oh, never mind, I see you did that. I have a great guy locally who will sign on remotely and delete those for me. Saved me a number of times. Maybe there is someone near you?

Thanks, Jimmer, that may be the way to go. Of course, and I hate to even admit this, but I may have more than 5 computers. I may also have a DVD somewhere around here good for installation on 3 PC's and only have used two of them. Or, I could just give up Microsoft Office and go with Open Office too. But in the meantime, I might have hatched another plot. I could perhaps use the option, as Naja recommended six or so months ago to do a totally clean installation of Windows 10, that wipes out everything. And once that wipes out and replaces everything, THEN I bet I could restore from the image I made a year ago when I bought this laptop, and the Office Pro 2016 would be back!! That might just work. I already proved today that the image I made is a working one. Yay for that! In the meantime, I now have one of my three spares that are similar to this one up and pretty much running with all of the backups installed. It's just that those laptops only have 4GB RAM, and this one has 8, and I am spoiled. So, I'm mainly thinking out loud here now (and getting ready to leave the country again for three weeks on Thursday), so I will probably sort all of this out when we return in May. I am not in dire straits at the moment.

Support Scam pop-up came back this morning. Thought so. So, I spent most of the morning researching and trying various things. The one that looked most likely was bleepingcomputer's recommendation to download Avast anti-virus, as it had a feature to do a boot scan. But prior to that I had run Rkill, which is a sort of online scan that will scan and recommend and also re-set changed registry keys that might be keeping the mainstream anti-virus and anti-malware softwares from finding anything. I ran some virus and malware scans after the boot scan, and they also found nothing. So, maybe the boot scan did the trick. Hahahaha, I speak too soon again. In the sentence above, I had a typing lag, which I have come to know as the first sign that the malware is re-asserting itself. Mouse has not gone wonky yet. But one of my home webpages just ran an audible ad, another early anomaly that something is wrong. Here's a conclusion I have tentatively reached: In the past I have always been able to beat any trojan or virus or malware if I put in the effort I have for the past couple days. I therefore conclude that perhaps this is a brand new variation/mutation/tweaking on a much older scam. And perhaps the anti-malware and anti-virus makers have not yet found a cure for it. I got more success in finding others experiencing the same problem when I Googled the toll-free number in the pop-up, and the people complaining are all within the past week!! So, while I am tempted to just totally re-install Windows 10, saying delete everything, maybe if I wait the three weeks I am out of the country, the anti-malware people will find a cure while I am gone. But, then again, I may just nuke it all tomorrow. I have been like a mad scientist in here today with three laptops all doing different things, trying to finalize things for a big trip in a couple days and keep the "safe" laptops networked to be able to use the shared printer and put final touches on trip details. It is almost comical, and Bigdog has been walking on eggshells hoping not to get hit with a blast of stress.

New Q: For some reason my internet signal keeps dropping. When I go to Network connections it shows the Wi-Fi as disconnected, so I right click and connect it. Everything is fine. There are two other items here....Broadband Connection (has a green checkmark) shows as disconnected AND....Ethernet which shows Network cable unplugged. Do I need to do anything for these connect these two areas or is this the correct set up? TIA

The past month or so every time my computer is off for a while, when I cut it back on, it says there is no internet connection. I run Windows Diagnostics. It checks for problems. It says "Wireless Network adapter doesn't have a valid IP configuration" says Fixed with a checkmark by it, and the internet is back. Why does this keep happening? It never used to.

Heckagirl, we are having similar problems and I don't have an answer for you, sorry. All of a sudden my internet signal is dropping again, like I mentioned above, April 30. Could my Wi-Fi router need to be replaced? I don't know how old it is and when I reboot my signal returned and sometimes I go to look at the Network and Sharing Center and find it is disabled, so I enable it; or when I click on connect it says there are no networks to connect to, however, I know there are a ton which I can normally see. Guess I will spend some time googling.

Heads Up Folks! I have received about 5 notices from Amazon in the last 2 days, canceling book orders that I never made. Haven't even logged into Amazon since buying graduation gifts 2 months ago. Never even heard of these books before. Saved the emails until I asked Niece tonight. She clicked on the last Order Number link and Kaspersky instantly flashed back "Malware" and blocked it. Just letting folks know, in case they start receiving this stuff and don't have Kaspersky.

There used to be a place on my laptop where I could go and test the printed page. Is that still around? A document I am printing in color is coming out all whacky so I want to improve it...I searched for improve print quality and did what it said and it is a little better, but not what it should be.

Dipo sometimes the printer itself is where you print the test page. You might want to look in the printer documentation to see if there's anything there.

Thanks, Kookliebird, I will take a look. Chewpito, I am beginning to think it was some sort of virus that was getting caught by my security, which was throwing me offline. I bought a new router and I haven't had a problem in over a month, so weird.

On my windows 10, I type "printer" into the search, and click on "printers and scanners". I look on the list and click on my printer. Mine's a Samsung. Then I click "manage". There you will have an option to print a test page and lots of other choices. I'm not exactly sure of that's the path on older windows.

Google your printer model. They should have done information on where to do a test print on your printer.

Dipo, you may have it set to print only black and white. As a generic guide, find your Printers and Devices or language to that effect in Control Panel, then find your printer, and try right clicking on the icon, and maybe that will bring up a settings or options page.
