The fix for the flaw came out yesterday. So if you don't have auto updates on, be sure to check for the update.

was doing some stuff on my computer and got a really bad virus, I couldn't access anything, I was so pissed off. I have Microsoft Security Essentials, which I love, but this window that popped up looked so similar I thought it was them. It was only about half way through the scan that I realized it was a different name, Microsoft Window something, can't remember the whole name I wish I would have written it down. Anyway, just wanted to warn people to be careful. I don't mind getting off the computer for a while to do other things, I DO MIND being forced off. Called my computer guy and they came to see me this morning, so $110 later (which I thought was very reasonable), I am back in business. Oh and I now have a Malwarebytes Anti-Malware program which they recommended.

Okay, I may have made the plunge and parted ways with Firefox after all these years. It seems like they are continually changing the browser, and after every change, they move things all around AND it acts up for the first few weeks. My latest update was 29.0.1 a few weeks ago, and Adobe Flash Player is crashing like crazy, and several times a day, when I have Firefox open, the entire computer freezes up, and I have to manually power off and back on to get any part of the computer working again. I "think" it has been Firefox that is causing it. Today I downloaded and installed and customized Google Chrome browser and am forcing myself to use it, even though I am liking Google less and less as we both age. Anyway, we shall see if the Flash Player crashes cease and if the computer freeze-ups stop.

Oh! And I just thought to go do a test with Chrome. In the past, when I used to watch shows I missed online at CBS.com, I saw them without having to watch a bunch of commercials and thought it was just great. I could watch an hour show in about 42 minutes total. In the past 3-4 months on both Firefox and internet Explorer, cbs.com won't let me watch videos online unless I disable my adblock add-on/extension. With the ad-blocker disabled, I have been forced to endure as many as 5 ads every 12-13 minutes, and they are the SAME ads all the time. I had no idea that my ad-blocker had been filtering out all those ads for all those years. So, just now I decided to go see if just by chance I might be able to watch CBS on Chrome with my ad-blocker on, and I saw NO ads! Oh, happy day. For a while, I suppose.

That explains why I don't like Firefox, LOL, every time I have to use it it wants me to upgrade adobe even though I have the most current version, LOL.

Outlook Email Question: My dad has THOUSANDS (over 200,000 if their count is correct) of emails in his inbox. Upon investigation I found that that his settings were incorrect so nothing was being deleted from the providers server for over 2 years. Then apparently the server itself malfunctioned and was sending all the old emails every time he hit send/receive. I have the server settings corrected and deleted the old email from the server. Finally to my question, is there a way to delete all the old email from his Outlook (2007 version I think) inbox with out having to do it 50-100 at a time. If I try to do more than that the program hangs (I'm afraid it will eventually crash) and has to be restarted which takes awhile. Thanks in advance!

instead of deleting... move the emails you want to remove to a folder called something like "email to delete" then you can just "delete folder" later.

New Q: My interent just suddenly dropped signal, I checked my modem and I could see it was trying to reestablish connection, so I called Comcast. They are telling me that my modem is old since it is from 2010 and that is the problem, it is a Motorola, could this be true. I don't really trust them on equipment stuff since they told me my wireless router was broken so I bought a new one and the old one was fine. Anyway my other question. Is there a way to hook the cable directly to the laptop without a modem, or do I have to have a modem? TIA. Oh, I disconnected everything and put it back together and miraculously I have connectivity, with no help from Comcast, LOL. I am so suspect because there has always been connectivity issues here, the gal who owned my home before said it was always going out for now reason and she switched to Astound.

You do have to have a modem, as I understand it, that's what separates the internet signal from phone, tv, etc. My Comcast connection drops out at times, I generally just wait 15 minutes and it comes back. It could be your modem, it could be Comcast. If it happens a lot, I'd consider a new modem, just because the new ones are a lot faster.

I do periodically lose my Comcast connection. I just cycle the modem and my computer. Do you know how to reset the modem? on mine there is a little pin-hole on the back. I can take a picture if you need it. Use a pen or paper clip and press it in. It will reset the modem. Then fire up the computer again. That usually takes care of mine being dropped.

Dipo, if when you go into your comcast modem settings,( http://192.168.100.1/ ) and under "hardware information" under "system" and it says says anything lower than "DOCSIS 3.0", then you should definitely return your old modem and get a newer one.

Naja, I clicked on that link and it says hardware version 1, do I need to go to the Comcast site? Thanks everyone, I have reset the modem before, just trying to figure out if I need a new one.

I didn't have a DOCSIS, and when I click you next link I get page can't be displayed. ok, I looked it up on google and it is a 2.0. So I guess I will go to Best Buy and get a replacement, but I still think it is Comcast. When I had the intermittent signal in the past it always happened right around this time. I tracked it for a while and then it stopped happening so I stopped. Thanks for the help.

Oh and Mamapors, that is what I used to do when I was plagued with this problem, I would walk away for 15 minutes or so, let the modem cycle away and come back to work. So that is what I will do now, it will help me get some other stuff done, LOL. It is just annoying.

Dipo, if you are interested, I have a Comcast-compatible modem that we only used for a week, that I could sell pretty cheap. Right after we got it, we got a really great offer from Comcast to go with phone service also, and this modem can't work with that. It's a Motorola SURFboard Cable Extreme SB6121 (new about $63), and it is 3.0. I have the original box but don't seem to have any paperwork with it. Send me a PM if you are interested.

i never buy my modems for comcast, but rent them instead. That way I get the most modern of them when they come out and I don't have compatibility issues.

Same here, Landi, but even when you rent them, they don't go out of their way to get the newest equipment out to you when it's available. You periodically have to check for yourself what's new. We live near a comcast office, so DH just drops off old equipment and trades it on the spot for the newer.

The rent here (in my town) paid for the modem in 6-12 months. So, it made more sense to buy it, and save money.

Same here, they charge $5 per month for a modem, and they cost about $50-80. So in 8-10 months I could own it, LOL. If the rent wasn't so high I would do that.

To each his own, but I like the fact I can trade in the equipment I have for something else, anytime I want, as many times as I want, without another charge. If it's breaks I get a replacement, no extra charge. There are advantages to both I guess. I do always buy my own router, though.

Well, the last modem we had for more than 3 years, so it sure didn't make sense to pay $5 x 36 or $180 for a $50 item. The one we have now was $10/month, $150 new, but I got it on Ebay for about $100.

I've had this conversation too many times about renting or owning. I'm not trying to convince anybody. I was just stating my own view.
