Since Mac's started using the same chipsets as PCs I've been reading about some minor outbreaks. I' guess I will just make sure I stay current on the updates. Thanks for the tips

Dipo, thanks for your reply. Yes I am rebooting now every time I use Outlook. Haven't had the bluescreen since I started doing that. But it is such a pita!

Is there a way to tell if you have been hacked? Just wondering because my computer did some weird things yesterday, so I shut it down; then when I started it, a message from HP assistant came up and I knew the weird stuff was from that. But it got me wondering if there was a way to tell that someone has hacked in. TIA.

It is more than likely a virus or trojan malware. Update and run your anti-virus NOW if you haven't already done so. Then if you have a malware detector, like Spybot Search and Destroy or Malwarebytes, update and run those too.

My antivirus runs every day, I've been running Malware as well, and still these issues. I feel like I'm banging my head against a brick wall. Frankly I think it is related to the Intuit products I have installed, namely Turbotax as my computers issued started after that and my Quickbooks became totally snafued for a while.

Dipo: I think my work computer uses Adobe Acrobat for pdfs. But it's at work & I'm not so I could be wrong.

Google Chrome has a built in pdf reader. Other than that, the most common is Adobe Acrobat, which is a free download. Macs also come equipped with "Preview" which also reads pdfs.

Firefox also has an extension ("Foxit" I think it's called). If you're trying to save a file as a pdf, cutepdf writer allows you to click "print" but then choose the cutepdf writer as the printer. The file is then saved when you click "print." At that point, it will ask where you want to save the file, and from then it is a PDF file that can be read by any PDF reader.

I am trying to view pdf files, they just come up as an x; and I do have the most recent version of adobe so it doesn't make sense. Oh, well I am running spybot to see if there is anything on my computer that is screwing stuff up.

I received two .pdf files today in my e-mail on a PC computer I have not used much, and they would not open. So I googled "download adobe acrobat reader" and then I installed the downloaded file, and then I restarted my computer, and I could then view the files.

I went ahead and signed on using google chrome and it won't open. But the other documents will so I think that it might be a bad document.

I just thought of this when I was dealing with my computer crash this morning (my graphics driver apparently needed updating or something). Did that java issue ever get solved? I keep getting notification that there are java updates but I don't know if I should allow them to install. TIA.

I've had to install them because our gradebook program uses Java. I haven't had any problems, but I don't do very many 'dangerous' things online, either. No games, no music downloads outside of Amazon or Itunes, etc.

Do you have Facebook open? If so, any time a notification comes through and you aren't on the page (if FB is in a different tab), it gives an audio notification as well. It's prom night here, and since I posted pictures my computer has been toodly-dooing like crazy!

Not a question, just to let y'all know in case you have this same combo I have. Lately my 13.3" Latitude laptop has started overheating and the Adobe Flash player crashing whenever I stream video, such as back episodes of the shows I missed from April 18 to about May 13. This just started happening, and I have been very distressed about it, have started looking at same model laptops on eBay. I thought I fixed the problem with blowing out the air vents, but the problem came back tonight. So I Googled. Doggone if a lot of people are not having the same problem! It is happening on Windows 7, 64 bit (got that), with Firefox 20.0 (got that) and Adobe Flash 11.7 (got that too). Well, huh!!! So, luckily I had not yet bought a replacement computer (this is a super little lightweight workhorse computer that I love, Dell Latitude E4300), which I was going to do rather than try to get it repaired. Just posting this so if any of you are having the same problem, do NOT take your computer in for repair. It is not a hardware problem, and hopefully it will be ironed out soon.

I am still having pdf viewing problems. When I need to see a pdf I launch google chrome. So I am thinking it is something wrong with IE. I am running IE 10. So if I want to reinstall IE10 should I uninstall it first? Thanks!

Anyone have experience with the Geek Squad at Best Buy? I am upset with them. When I bought my netbook computer back in October, they talked me into buying the extended warranty for it, that includes everything. Last weekend, about half of the keyboard keys quit working. So I took it in for repair last Sunday. I was told it would be sent for repair on Monday, and I would probably get it back at the end of the week. Today I called to check on it, and they said it just got to their service center yesterday. She said give them a couple of days to fix it, and three or four days more for it to get back here. So this is sounding like it will be gone for almost two weeks. I can't believe it's taking them so long, and I am MAD about it. All I have to get online is my msntv2 player, and it can't do much. So frustrating!

I have no experience with either Geek Squad or Best Buy. I don't feel I could trust either.
