I tried to plug my computer back up aftera week of letting it sit, for the most part. Smoke came out where the cord plugs into the computer. I immediately undid it. I think I'm going to have to buy something else.

Bought a Gateway LT4009U. It's essentially a small laptop. Enjoying it so far!

What antivirus programs are you all using/recommending at this point? Thanks!

Jimmer, none. For my DS, we use Norton. His college agrees it's the best currently.

LOL - Showing off again, eh? I'm currently using Norton as well (and it is a much improved product from several years ago) but I need to renew it. I've been having trouble syncing my lovely Apple products to the latest version of iTunes and I've heard that Norton and iTunes aren't playing well together at the moment so I was considering other options.

Oh, my DS isn't having any trouble, but he doesn't usually sync. He backs up to icloud rather than his computer, and downloads music directly to his iphone.

When I took my Mom's laptop in for fixing, the guy recommended KIS 2013 (Kaspersky Internet Security 2013) over any of the other common ones, though I use McAfee due to it being free with my internet provider.

My wife and I are both running Norton Internet Security and also use iTunes for our iPhones, iPods, and iPads. We've had not one problem with any conflict or issue between iTunes and Norton and that's probably over seven plus years right up to including this morning when I sync'd my iPhone.

I appreciate everyone's replies. That's good to hear that it is working for you, Mack. What O/S are you running on your computer. Is it Windows 7 64 bit? Are you syncing successfully with WiFi or via USB or both? It's so difficult to diagnose these sync problems.

Just had work done on my computer not too long ago and the guy recommended microsoft security essentials as the best right now and he uses it for his business. It is free and I have been very happy with it.

We've used Microsoft Security Essentials for a couple years and have had zero problems. Love that it's free! We used Avast before that, but it got clunky and slow right before we changed to MSE. Not sure if they've resolved their issues, but it was good when it first came out (and also free).

Jimmer - We're running Windows 7 Ultimate on all of our machines. We sync via USB most of the time though I know we can do it, supposedly, via WiFi.

Thanks Mack. Is that 64 bit? Since the last upgrade the darn sync works less than 20% of the time for me and it seems to be getting worse. I've tried pretty much everything short of magic spells and I can't figure it out.

Yes, we run 64-bit on all of our PC's and laptops but only use the PC's to sync our Apple products with iTunes. I really don't know what to say about your sync issue. Maybe we've been lucky but it hasn't been a problem for us. I did get a bad download of a bunch of MicroSoft updates this past weekend on one of my laptops and that took some doing to fix but iTunes wasn't an issue and I don't think Norton had anything to do with it. Probably partially my fault as I hadn't turned that particular laptop on for a couple of weeks and when I did Saturday morning I was frustrated that it wanted to go through what was apparently some lengthy updates. I probably messed up the sequence as Mrs. Mack and I were on the patio trying to research a cruise and I had little patience and tried to rush the process.

Thanks again, Mack. That's helpful to me in narrowing it down at least. Are you running the latest versions of iTunes and iOS?

LOL - Well that's depressing. You know I uninstalled everything at one point and then reinstalled it and it worked great - for about a day. Then back to the same old problem. Very frustrating. So you have Windows 7 64 bit, you're running Norton Internet Security and you have all the latest updates from Apple. It sounds like we are running a similar setup. Now to try to figure out what is different with mine.

Somewhere, somehow there's probably a corrupted file. The bummer is trying to figure out and isolate the corrupted file or files. There are so many files nowadays that are shared across a number of applications and these stay in place for other programs even if you do an uninstall and reinstall. On the other hand it could be something wrong with the iPad, iPhone, or iWhatever. While I've not had this problem with iTunes and the various Apple "i" products I've had it with other programs and sometimes it's enough to make you want to cry from frustration.

When I click on the full screen icon while watching an on-demand video through my Windows 8 computer I just get a flicker but nothing happens. No full screen. What can I do to fix? To be clear, this is through the Xfinity.Comcast.net site where I login to watch the on-demand shows. I can get full screen in Netflix, etc... just not Comcast. In researching on the net, this seems to be a problem with Silverlight. Anyone else experiencing this?

Which browser are you using? Did you try just switching browsers and see if it made a difference?

I'll add that I loaded Firefox and was able to use full screen. Can you use both Firefox and Internet Explorer optionally. By that I mean, chose Firefox when I use Comcast, and then switch back to Explorer when done. It seemed like I was stuck with Firefox only when I loaded it. Hope this makes sense. I was a systems analyst for ten years and you wouldn't know it by this!

My default is fine. I guess I just want to add Firefox and use it for xfinity. When I did this though, I couldn't use Explorer when done.

I don't have windows 8. I am only as far as windows 7. I keep a shortcut to other browsers on my desktop. Can you do that on windows 8? I go to my list of all programs, and then right click on the alternate browser listed there, and then choose either "pin to taskbar", or "Pin to start menu" or "send to + create desktop shortcut". Then it's right there for easy access.
