Looks like I reread that headline, there will be NO Season 4, so the currently airing S3 will be the last. https://tvline.com/news/and-just-like-that-cancelled-no-season-4-hbo-max-1235481187/

Dexter: Original Sin cancelled by Paramount. Season 1 has aired, it was renewed for S2, but now they have reversed that and there will be no more seasons. This is the Dexter where he was 20(?)ish and Christian Slater was his dad. It ended quite well, in that it basically told the story to get Dexter to where he was in the original series, so it makes sense to stop it there (especially as Dexter: Resurrection has been renewed and involves some of the same people).

That's so weird because we all seemed to really like that one a lot.

It was good! So puzzling why it was cancelled. The actor who played the young adult Dexter was so good.

I think a) because it took us to the point where Dexter was with the Miami police and therefore we’d just be replaying the original Dexter show, and b) because the writers etc. and Michael C Hall are going to be busy on this current one. But it was good, I think it just filled a gap and now they’ve moved on.

I am so bummed to hear this news! Kitt, I agree that is probably the reason. This new series has gotten great ratings and reviews so concentrate on that. Maybe they can use the original sin characters for flash backs

Btw, still no official word on the Dexter renewal, which seems strange. Last we heard was that renewal was imminent depending on budget.

I'm guessing The View will be next. That and Kimmel were the only two shows that I watched on CBS. Merger or no merger, what absolute cowards they are at CBS.

I think Kimmel, Colbert and some others are better for cable/streaming TV.

Absolutely an appalling transgression on free speech by the American government. I’ve already commented on this in News & Views.

He has the freedom to say what he wants, no one is putting him in jail but his employer has the right to suspend him, just like Roseanne’s did.

It’s not like they did it because people didn’t want to view or buy his product. His employer did so under pressure from the American government. That is the difference and it is a huge difference. I hope you see that difference.

This is crazy. Colbert and now Kimmel, all because we have CC a wannabe dictator with a totally corrupt executive branch propped up by a corrupt Supreme Court. This goes beyond free speech.

His employer did it because they have a potential merger deal that will require FCC approval and guess who will try to influence that.

Jimmer an employer has the right to protect their company from the negative effects of toxic, untrue comments on a public platform. The broadcasters have a license granted by the FCC and that comes with the obligation to broadcast to the public’s interest. Again, I think he’s best suited for a station like CNN or MSNBC like Gutfeld, their audience specifically tunes in for that kind of content.

For the record, Kimmel didn't say anything degrading to Kirk, he said: “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it.” He then showed that clip of Trump being asked how he was doing after the death of his friend, and Trump said quite good, and immediately segued to talk about construction on his ballroom.

It's not about the comment and Gutfield is just propaganda and meanness, IMO. @tab_delete Theo Baker To be clear: It's not "ABC pulls Jimmy Kimmel after comments about Charlie Kirk, " it's "ABC pulls Jimmy Kimmel after threats from Trump FCC chair" The distinction matters here. 4:00PM 9/17/25

That is entirely the distinction here. Lakecat, if you don’t want to watch Kimmel because you don’t like him or you disagree with him and ABC loses money as a result if you’re not watching, that is a business issue. However, the FCC (i.e. the government) threatening ABC with regard to what they’re broadcasting makes it a government free speech issue.

Just a general note that this thread is intended for the discussion of TV show cancellations and renewals. It is not suitable for an ongoing political discussion. Therefore, we request that everyone continue further political discussion in the News and Views area, which is dedicated to that.
