Star Trek: Starfleet Academy was renewed for Season 2 before S1 aired, but it's now been confirmed S2 will be the final season.
Not sure if it was the reviews of S1, or planned to be that way.

The Talamasca cancelled by AMC.
Have to have an Anne Rice rant: I adore just about every book she’s written and I was so excited to see these adaptations. Interview with the Vampire was very good, great characters, and then the Mayfair Witches… imagine a screeching to a halt noise because it was just so wrong! She was wrong, he was 10 times of wrong, nothing made sense, it was awful! I watched S1, and when S2 came out I really tried, but it was still so off, and I gave up at episode two.
But… I really wanted to watch The Talamasca to see what they did with that. But felt I’d have to wade through S2 of the witches first, so it’s still on my stack - now to go unwatched I suppose - because I can’t take the witches.
So that might be one way the Talamasca didn’t get enough views.
And yet Mayfair Witches has been renewed…

For Call the Midwife, there will be a season 16, but they’re going to take a little break first, and it will likely involve only a few of the current cast.
But first they will have the movie with the current cast, which I think is meant to be out at Christmas.
Oh and they will do a prequel series with some of the nuns, but set during or just after WW2. I believe S1 of that will be out before S16 of the original show.
