I started watching The Gilded Age on HBO. It's a series about New York society in the 1880s, created by Julian Fellowes (the creator of Downtown Abbey). I enjoyed the first episode, even though it was mostly establishing characters and storylines. It stars Morgan Spector, Cynthia Nixon and Christine Baranski. Shows a lot of promise to be a good show.

Sugar, they all have some issues! Danny McBride seems to always play the same character but the show is very funny.

Oh, I would never have known that, cause her other girls use their dad's last name, "Gummer." Louisa's full name is actually "Louisa Jacobson Gummer" (I looked it up), but she dropped the Gummer part for professional use. Maybe she didn't want to be immediately associated with her famous mom. Thanks, Lurkin!

Now that I'm watching the second episode, I see a very strong resemblance between Louisa and her sisters, Grace and Mamie Gummer. I think they take after their mother.

Does Gilded Cage air weekly or can you binge it? I do not like streaming shows that air weekly. That's OTA TV.

If it’s HBO it’s likely aired weekly with all past episodes available for streaming.

I can't find any "Gilded Cage", but "The Gilded Age" on HBO airs weekly on Tuesdays. 2 eps have aired so far.

I’m enjoying the Gilded Age, but I do wish it had more “bite”. The costumes and sets are amazing.

 | Wednesday, February 09, 2022 - 6:46 am Is anyone else finding the character of Marian a bit blah? It’s early in the season but I thought I would’ve warmed to her more by now.

 | Wednesday, February 09, 2022 - 7:08 am Marian is of the times. She is quite a strong personality given the time period. I am sure we will see her as a suffragette at some point. After watching the episode where Agnes runs off Ada's suitor, had had sympathy for Agnes. She has her view that she believes she can identify men who will chase her niece/sister. In Ada's case, she was right.

I think Agnes is the most interesting character.

 | Thursday, March 17, 2022 - 11:57 am Me too 'Neecee! Rieann didja know Carrie Coon who plays the icy social climbing Mrs. Russell, was EIGHT MONTHS PREGGERS (!) when they were filming. (They filmed until July last year.) They adjusted her costumes... no corset.

 | Thursday, March 17, 2022 - 12:19 pm I love this show! I read that the actress who plays Marion--Meryl Streeps daughter--told the costumers early to make her corsets realky tight and lived to regret it as she was in so much pain. She had them loosened up.

I loved the two titans coming head to head. So funny. That was a fun finale although I’m ready for more.

I hope we never see Mr. Raikes again. Run free, Marian!!! He was dull.

 | Thursday, March 24, 2022 - 3:07 am Love how the 2 titans' daughters are besties. I really enjoy them. And you can clearly see how much more Astor genuinely loves her daughter, vs how Russell uses hers. Sad.

 | Thursday, March 24, 2022 - 7:43 am Agree, Mame. I can't believe how fast this season went! I'm so glad Marian found out about Raikes before she married him and was stuck "till death" (divorce was out of the question in those days, especially in high society). I was thinking he thought he could get his hands on the aunts' money and would be disappointed that all of Aunt Agnes' money would go to her useless son.

I can't believe Carrie Coons was 8 months pregnant when this was shot! I was obsessed with catching a glimpse of the belly this episode and really noticed how they hid it behind furniture, other actors and voluminous costumes. I expect to see many Emmy nominations this fall!
