I enjoyed The Holdovers too! I hadn't heard anything about it and just stumbled upon it. I'm delighted for the actress, Da'Vine Randolph, who won Best Supporting Actress last night.

I was not a fan of The Holdovers and did not think it deserved any of the accolades or awards it received. IMO it was predictable and dull. Da'Vine Joy Randolph's character Mary had no depth.
Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Definitely, Sugar. I'm often puzzled by awards given to movies I didn't like at all.

Found a new fav.. We Are Lady Parts. It’s a quick watch with 6 episodes per season. Season two just started today.

It’s about a geeky graduate student that gets recruited to join an all-female Muslim punk band.

I think it is on Showcase in Canada.

Thanks, Rieann. I watched the trailer the other day and I had added it to my watchlist at the time. Now I know to definitely watch it.

I had to check and NBC profits are down 21% so far this year. I'll take a guess it's because no one is watching network tv. I guess they are going to try to squeeze every penny they can out of streamers now.

And they're doing right before the Olympics start.

Just canceled Peacock. We waited for the Olympics to be done. With all channels now, we wait until the entire season we want to see has finished, then order the channel for a month, binge the show, and then cancel. Netflix & Prime are more than enough.

You are about to miss out on a golden opportunity! Homicide: life on the streets is about to FINALLY stream - on peacock - tomorrow (Monday). All seven seasons plus the movie. Copyright issues kept one of the best series EVER from being rewatched (especially when DVD and vhs went virtually out of business)….until now.

No joke it’s must watch tv whether people watched it originally or never watched it at all.

Teach, what do you watch on Amazon? Everything I go on there to try and watch something, they want to charge me money for it! I'm getting ready to cancel prime.

just a note that some of the "fuzzy" images in Homicide are totally accurate - it was one of the many reasons the show was groundbreaking with the use of handheld cameras in early episodes.

Watching episode one now - it's so strange seeing Andre Braugher SO skinny/young in his face... and we see a young Steve Harris as a suspect early in the episode (who later starred on The Practice)

Grooch, I just finished season two of Troppo on Prime. It's a series from Australia about two outliers who end up working together as private investigators. I really enjoyed it but then I always get caught up in British and Australian investigative type shows featuring unusual personalities. I also enjoyed Deadloch, another Australian show which I believe was on prime.

Yay!!! I located Homicide: Life on the Streets on Peacock tonight and bookmarked it. Hopefully I will remember to watch it. I am still in Season 4 of The Good Wife.

It can't really be spoilers if the show is 30 years old :-) but this just shows a taste of Homicide - and how many great people passed through its episodes...

This is an excerpt from a blog I wrote several months ago about memorable TV shows

HOMICIDE: Life on the Streets

HOMICIDE is another TV series that remains on my all-time favorite lists, and why I will watch anything with Andre Braugher. Looking back, I realize it ran virtually the whole time I lived in North Carolina for school. Given its lack of reruns and shift away from VHS tapes, it’s one of my beloved shows that I barely have seen episodes more than twice. I will always remember Robin Williams guest starring in the second season as a father of two whose wife is shot as they were visiting a park as tourists. (Definitely didn’t know the son was a 13-year-old Jake Gyllenhaal.). Yet another episode remains imprinted in my memory…one I realize made an impact on almost everyone that saw it, and that is the “Subway” episode (s. 6, ep. 7)

Braugher’s character Pembleton and the other officers are investigating a potential murder, only the victim John Lange (played by Vincent D’Onofrio) isn’t dead yet. Watching Pembleton talk with the Lange, knowing he will die as soon as removed from between the train and platform, was just as frustrating and heartbreaking to the viewer as it was to the characters. They tried to find the girlfriend jogging around the harbor, but never did and I remember taking a breath as she jogs pass the subway station at the very end after Lange died. We definitely see a more vulnerable Pembleton as much as we know he just wants to get on with finding out what happened.

Whoa, I have not yet even looked at the series, had no idea it was 30 years old. I am having fun watching The Good Wife (about 2/3 through with season 4 now) and figuring out which current shows I know some of the actors from

Juju - fun fact... Your Good Wife star, Julianna Margulies, was in two episodes of Homicide during its short second season. She was offered an extended contract but had just filmed the pilot for ER. Clooney called her to say not to take any other jobs yet because the producers might make her a regular on ER. The rest is history. (Winning awards for both ER and Good Wife)... I cant imagine Clooney's character on ER without Margulies's character... and who knows if she would have made it to the Good Wife if she had stayed on Homicide...

I am going to watch again for the Vincent D'Onofrio episode alone! One of the most powerful tv episodes ever!

On Homicide, I was surprised to see John Waters playing a bartender with little to no lines....he basically was just wiping down the bar and drying glasses as a cop was venting to him about something.

I also spotted the teen (or pre-teen) Jake Gyllenhaal when he played the son of Robin Williams.....but I would've never recognized him without reading here that he was in it. Also saw a young Edie Falco...I recognized her voice before I recognized her face, she was so young.

" I am having fun watching The Good Wife (about 2/3 through with season 4 now)"

Juju, don't forget to watch The Good Fight when you finish TGW! Overall, I liked that spinoff series more than the original.

Whoah, I just finished that episode of HOMICIDE: Life on the Streets, and it was intense! Vincent was so young and slim.

Thanks, SanFran, I was planning on watching the Good Fight next, but I might have to watch Homicide: Life on the Streets next, but in reality, I will be lucky to finish The Good Wife before regular season network shows begin, and I have to watch them to stay caught up. I only watch two hours of television a day, almost all of it streaming.
