Sanfran, if you've left watching Countdown with Jensen until you can binge it, the finale aired today (or maybe yesterday to you).

Don't get put off by Jensen's lines in the first episode, they are a bit... contrived... maybe, but from the next episode onwards he gets regular person lines.

I'm not sure about the plot(s) or some of the writing, but it is a pleasure watching Jensen be so Dean-like, with Jensen/Dean mannerisms and humour. It's worthwhile watching it just for that.

"Sanfran, if you've left watching Countdown with Jensen until you can binge it"

I started it this week. I'll likely watch it all, but not really "binge" it one ep after another. It's okay, but I feel like I've seen it before...as if it came from a Hollywood special task force factory. Jensen is fine in it but this show doesn't really allow much of a range for him. To me, he's like toned down "Dean" but without a "Sammy" or the fun of monster hunting.

I just realized that after watching the first 3 or 4 episodes, I don't even remember any character's name! That's always a sure sign that a show just isn't grabbing me. I had a similar reaction with "Walker". The problem wasn't the actor(s), it was just the overused premises and plots.

" QUESTION 6: Name three essentials in any motel room set.

ACKLES: Partitions."

Ya know I don't remember noticing those when I originally watched it...took our binge to get my attention. :-)

Countdown never grabbed me, right the way through. It got a lot of positive attention at first, but a lot of the reviews haven't been kind, so I think it will be touch and go whether it will be renewed. It's always telling when a show ends and there isn't a renewal announcement within a few days.

Walker though... I loved that. Jared in it was so needy but tried so hard, it touched all my buttons.

Somewhere in a storage cupboard somewhere will be all those partitions... waiting :-).

Hey, there should be a Supernatural Museum! They could display everything from those partitions to Paris Hilton's head!

Countdown has been cancelled. That's two Jensen new series cancelled at the end of S1, hope they don't start passing on him for the lead.

I still haven't gotten to ep 2 of Countdown. I haven't totally rejected it but every time I wanted to watch something, there was always some other show that appealed to me a lot more.

However, I must admit that Countdown didn't feel like something "new" to me. It felt like I was watching any one of a dozen other cop shows.

edited to add - I just read up a few posts and I see that I must've already seen several eps. The fact that I only remember starting it says a lot about how it never pulled me in.

Jensen would've been great in Farscape! He does well in unique shows.

Btw, are you still watching Farscape? If so, what season are you on now?

Yeah, the show itself wasn't... special. But I think it did probably showcase Jensen's ability to physically portray everything he is feeling in a really believable way, which might have caught some people's eye, or reminded them (I noticed Supernatural is on the "popular" list again on our Amazon, for example). He was definitely the best part of the show... although perhaps I am a little biased ;).

Yes! Still watching Farcsape, but slowly. We are half way into Season 3 watching with my hubby, and I am at the beginning of Season 2 re-watching by myself, because I always fall asleep in the evenings watching together. Not the best strategy as it's all a bit confusing with the various stages of Scorpius, but it does stop me missing things. We tried to wait on the together watching until I caught up, but I was too slow at that too, as once again, keep falling asleep.

Maybe one day I will go back to be able to get a full night's sleep and be a relatively normal functional human being.

Oh, was shocked that a certain blue person is no more!! I kept thinking that would be fixed, but at least so far it hasn't been. I am not keen on the screaming woman who's her replacement. Actually not keen on the whole section where Crichton is too messed up by Scorpius to function. We're mostly past that now, but it was tough.

"I am not keen on the screaming woman who's her replacement."

I liked Jool, especially her insane ability to get upset and scream like a banshee....which causes metal to melt! lol I never thought of her as a "replacement" of Zhaan though. Nobody could replace our favorite blue plant priestess. She's just an addition to the cast at a sad time and there will be more... Jool also grows and loses some of her obnoxious mean entitled girl attitude.

Btw, at first I hated that she was gone and then I learned that Virginia Grey had a good reason for leaving. All the beautiful blue makeup was causing her to develop health issues according to some sources but this is Virgina Hey's explanation:

Why did Virginia Hey (Zhaan) leave Farscape?
https://www.sffchronicles.com/threads/24613/

As for Supe's Mr Ackles...he's still "Soldier Boy" on The Boys, although we still have to wait for "sometime in 2026" for the next season. I don't know if it's good or bad that Jensen's work is best when he's playing a role in some other kind of world. He just seems more boring as a typical hard headed cop in a typical cop show. He belongs in an "out of this world" world. Yeah I'm type casting him but he seems a bit too special to play a boring cop. It might be fun to see him in a "American Psycho" type role. :-)

Thanks for the link, wow, I hadn't noticed the shaved eyebrows, I assumed they were covered. That would be the worse thing, as she could have worn a wig for hair. Definitely would have taken quite a toll.

Many of the Star Trek characters have spoken about how long it takes in makeup, and that they had only a few hours sleep after late filming, and 5am calls. It's hard to blame her for wanting to go.

Yes, Jensen didn't really stand out on Big Sky as a regular Sheriff. And on Tracker I like him a lot, but that's because I think of him as kind of a real-world tame version of Dean. It must be hard to shake off a tv character you spent probably the 15 most significant years of your life becoming, in terms of shaping your own (real life) character, I'm not sure any tv character would seem as fulfilling. Maybe he can keep getting short seasons of interesting unique characters to entertain us and top up his Supe funds :-).

The Boys.... featuring the Supernatural boys (one prominently, one occasionally, and one briefly) starts April 8th on Prime Video.

New trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIQ4kT6cCZA

I have a unsettling feeling that Jared is some evil mob boss and is going to have to die horribly :-( :-( :-(.

Sanfran, if you're around, I am pretty sure you said to let you know when I am on Season 4 of Farscape, but now I can't find where you said that, so maybe I imagined it ;) ;).

Anyway, I watched the finale of S3 last night. Crichton tried to go through the wormhole but run out of gas, Aeryn's gone off, the creepy old woman tells Crichton that Aeryn's pregnant, and then Moya got sucked into the wormhole!

The whole Aeryn with Crichton B (or was it A?) and then him dying, while Crichton A (B?) was still in love with her was heartbreaking! Really difficult to watch. I wish they hadn't spent so long with the two groups apart.

I wasn't sad to see the end of Tallyn, or Crais though, to be honest.

For some reason my (UK) Amazon Prime only has Farscape free to the end of S3, so I have to switch to a channel with adverts for S4. After that I'm seeing some places have a two episode "Season 5," and some have "The Peacekeeper Wars," do you know if they are the same thing? I assume so.

"The whole Aeryn with Crichton B (or was it A?) and then him dying, while Crichton A (B?) "

Therein lies the problem....he's not an A or B. He's an A and he's another A. When they separated they start having different experiences in different environments which changes them in different ways. It makes for a great storyline. Most shows seem to have the guy vying with third party rivals for the girl, but this one had the guy vying against himself. He got the girl and lost the girl at the same time. He was elated and heartbroken all at the same time but his feelings were compartmentalized.

"After that I'm seeing some places have a two episode "Season 5," and some have "The Peacekeeper Wars," do you know if they are the same thing? I assume so."

You're a great assumer! :-) Yes, S05 is the final season and it's made up of two movies. (equal to about 4 typical eps) Beware the production values....just imagine it takes place in a cheap alternate universe.

"Sanfran, if you're around, I am pretty sure you said to let you know when I am on Season 4 of Farscape, but now I can't find where you said that, so maybe I imagined it ;) ;). "

Well, my memory is now three fourths of a century old so I'm a bit forgetty, too, Kitty....or is that "Kitt"? :-)

There were scenes that would've been fun to discuss, like when they all change bodies and Dar'go is Jool in his body but Jool's clothes! the twinning of Crichton conundrum, reunions, etc... But I don't remember the specific thing I was thinking of months ago.

There is a scene in an ep (can't remember the season or ep #) that I was thinking about but I'm not positive. (When I binge these series it's feels more like watching 88 eps over about a week so I never know what episode had what scene.) Anyhow, there was yet another moment when Chrichton and Aeryn are reunited and it was a super emotional scene with Crichton sobbing like a baby that got to me.

The story becomes a lot more coherent and Chiana's hair is basically dead....and it's more linear than the madhouse of season 3...or 4.

Anyhow, I searched around...I think I also wanted to spoil you with something that's a spoiler/not a spoiler. The final episode of S04 opens with pictures from each episode of the series and in chronological order. It lasts 30 seconds flashing at least 88 pictures from 88 episodes, but it's an amazing opening.

I'm so glad you're are enjoying this series. I have tried to get others to watch it but they never get around to it...unless they're a steady movie night friend and I force them to watch the first couple of eps and they fall in love with it.

I'd love to have seen a scene of The Supe Boys running into the FS crew. I can imagine Dean running to get the axe while Sammy just wants to chat. That would the crossover of the century!

Yep, it was a really good take on the clone option, not having one be the bad clone, or lesser clone. Yet only one Aeryn. And I haven’t enjoyed the sections of the series where the main characters are apart, but they had to do that here for Aeryn to be able to commit tone over the other.

I’d have loved to have been in sync with you during watching, but was not to be! I did enjoy the body swapping episodes! And somewhere along the line D’Argo seems to have really softened up. Much gentler person, although he hasn’t been on screen much recently where I’m watching because they’re all on different ships.

I watched S4E1 last night, and yes, that was quite an opening! They do seem to have a better budget for some things, I noticed Rygel is extra colourful, but yes, Chiana’s wig is long gone, I’m not sure they’re even brushing it now :-).

Oh I’ve definitely enjoyed it! I think the beginning and middle of S2, where they were all apart and then Crichton is tortured by Scorpiuswere hard to get through, I certainly slowed down then, but from the end of S2 through S3 it’s been much better. Wonderful that they kept the Scorpy in Crichton’s head!!

Now I just need a happy reunion scene getting them all back together and a bit less tragedy :-).

Our Supe boys never did deal with aliens. They’d have had fun with Rygel. Dean would have fallen for Chiana, D’Argo would not have approved.

"I watched S4E1 last night, and yes, that was quite an opening!"

Yes that was a cool catch up opening (I just rewatched it) but that wasn't what I was referring to. I was talking about the "final episode" of s04, which was ep 22. It started with seeing Crichton on the beach in Florida before he left earth.

But DON'T go watch it now! Being at the ep's end, it immediately follows a totally super-spoily scene that could affect you if you you know ahead of time.

And here's a little history. You're seeing this (below) after the fact but living through it in real time was difficult for me (and many other fans) because it was my favorite tv show.

I made sure this google AI answer didn't have plot spoilers...it's all about behind the scenes crap!
--------
"Farscape
season 4 was not just almost canceled; it was abruptly canceled by the Sci-Fi Channel in September 2002 while in production, leaving a massive cliffhanger. Despite a secured 5th season, high production costs, low ratings, and a German financial scandal led to the show's demise before the final episodes aired.

Key details regarding the cancellation and aftermath include:

Abrupt Ending: The, then-unknown, series finale ("Bad Timing") was produced, leaving fans with <redacted by Sanfranjoshfan :-) >.

Fan Mobilization: Intense fan efforts, including the "Save Farscape" campaign and mailing thousands of items (like bras) to the network, pressured the network to act.

The Resolution: Due to fan outcry, the miniseries Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars was produced to resolve the storyline.

Why It Happened: The show's high cost, coupled with a lack of audience growth and poor luck, led to the decision.

The show, which was intended to run for five seasons, remains a cult classic known for its unique, mature sci-fi"

-From google AI/ No link because I have found that if I try to search the google question again I often get a different answer!

I hope "From google AI" is a valid credit.

---------

"Our Supe boys never did deal with aliens. They’d have had fun with Rygel. Dean would have fallen for Chiana, D’Argo would not have approved."

I would've hoped that Rygel was thrown into hell so Rowana would have to deal with him.

Yep, no aliens but there was this "close call" to a Supe Alien ep!

Season 6, Episode 9
"Clap Your Hands If You Believe"

It's the one when Dean was abducted and Richard Picardo was a guest star.

Yeah, that was a good episode. Well, they were all good episodes, of course ;). Why didn't they think of the salt earlier?! :-) :-) :-)

That must have been awful at the time, when you're so invested and have been for years. And if it was intended to be a five season show there must have been a lot they had to skip in the Peacemaker Wars. Not going to google the "German financial scandal"(!!!) but that's... unexpected.

I watched s4e2 and D'Argo and Jool are back with the others, but still no Aeryn. I'm gonna need a proper resolution just to that, before the season is out! :-)
