Strange to be big enough to make it on such a popular show, but still need to wait tables to make a living.

I think a similar thing to peanuts was done with footballs (toy / miniature?) to keep Friday Night Lights going.

Well CW pretty much announced that their "fall" season won't start until 2021...they have some stopgaps in the meantime... https://tvline.com/2020/05/14/the-cw-fall-lineup-2020-schedule-delayed-superman-and-lois/ NBC picked up Canadian show Transplant: https://tvline.com/2020/05/14/transplant-ctv-medical-drama-season-1-order-nbc/

Naja!!! You're surprised a network cancelled a GOOD show?!?!... That's why I'm afraid to watch new shows... for fear I'm going to like them only to have them cancelled.

Sadly, unless it's a police or medical show, the odds for a show aren't good. I don't automatically dislike police or medical shows. There have been some great ones. However, they do dominate TV these days. It's interesting how these things go. For example, all the top shows in the 60's were Westerns and you couldn't find a Western on TV now in a hundred years.

You had Columbo way back when, Dragnet, the Fugitive, Untouchables, Perry Mason. Who can forget Dr. Kildare, Ben Casey. Those were big shows in the sixties. Medical and cop shows have always had an appeal.

Good point. There is great drama in life and death situations. Probably that was one of the appealing things about Westerns as well.

Let's not forget the king of all westerns, Bonanza. I grew up in the Sacramento area, and Lake Tahoe is only a couple of hours away. When I was a kid there was a Ponderosa theme park at Lake Tahoe. I went there once with a friend's family. I was convinced I'd be "discovered" and cast as the Cartwrights' little sister.

That’s a fun story! Bonanza was on forever. As was Gunsmoke.

I can remember as a little kid, walking down second avenue with my brother and Hoss was walking towards us, I am sure that my eyes were round and mouth open as I said in awe to my brother, its Hoss. Hoss looked at me and winked, I was so thrilled.

We took our kids to the Ponderrosa about 20 years ago. We were so excited and they were like ‘what is this??’ LOL

Maris and Texannie, both great stories. Sadly, the Ponderosa Ranch is no longer there. It was probably sold shortly after you visited, Texannie, precisely because not that many people (especially kids) remember the show. It was the first TV show I ever saw in color (on my uncle's TV, cause we always had B&W). It was beautiful, cause they actually filmed some of it around Lake Tahoe. When I grew up, we realized how ridiculous it was that the Cartwrights were always going into Virginia City. VC is at least an hour from the lake (by freeway). It would have taken the Cartwrights a day or even two to travel there on horseback.

We got our first color TV in '61. I remember watching Bonanza in color!! And I remember having to adjust the color according to skin tones.

Funny color was the reason that cartoons were so popular.
