Our cruise line loyalty level gave us each $6 free play, which we heretofore on cruises have never tried to use or redeem. I read on the CruiseCritic message board that it can be redeemed, so this being the last open night of the casino on the first leg of our two-segments cruise, I decided we should try it, and received a set of instructions from the cashier. The instructions were, of course, written for different machines than the ones in the casino, but I had the basics down before Bigdog took custody of the instructions, after our first attempts failed. So I started experimenting with different combinations, even made two 30 cent bets to see if I had to gamble before I could cash out, but that turned out to not be a factor, so I kept experimenting, using a $5 balance, since I didn't want to risk charging $540 to my account. I finally got an opportunity to somehow exit and cash out my balance, and got the machine to spit out a ticket for $5. But in the meantime, a dinner mate had come along with a fistful of cash that she said she won using her $6 loyalty credit, plus $5 of her own money, and urging us to play our money, and I forgot what I did to get the cash out. Oh, and somewhere in all of this Bigdog discovered he left his room key card in the room and had to go retrieve it from the other end of the ship. So then I took over Bigdog's console from 2 feet away using my grotesquely long arms and punched buttons on his console until I squeezed out a $6 cash-out voucher from his machine. And so, about an hour after we started, we cashed in our proceeds from the adventure, amounting to $11, but I suspect we were at least $11 ahead of at least 75-95% of the players in the casino for the night. Cheap thrills for non-gambling seniors. I guess I better go post this to my folder since I have taken the time to write it. They were not kidding about it taking 4.5 hours to clear the whole ship. We got in line at 4:15 pm and got back on at 5:20, late for dinner. And all we did was clear immigration and get a sticker in our passports. The rest of the time was standing in line with a thousand other people. We did get to use the hot tub and swimming pool this morning when there were hardly any people in it. Oh, and we played trivia with a mother/daughter team and scored pretty well.
