I don't think they have been told that, have they? We've been told that, but we haven't even been told the whole truth. So who knows what they told the climbers.

I feel for the older and not in good shape people on this show... they didn't think they were going to end up on a show about climbing a mountain. I'm thinking the ones with knee problems have ruined them for life!

Strat, I agree. I wonder if they had to have knee surgery because of this show.

Honestly, they should not have cast some of the people for this type of show. It was actually kind of cruel to make them think they were going on a BB/Survivor type show and send them on this

Having knee issues late in life, and not having done any of the crazy things they have done, I have been worrying about their knees for some time. I hate to think how they will regret keeping on with their injuries when they have difficulties as they age. I wonder what they got paid, if it was a per week thing .. off to goggle.

O, interesting ... they apparently were not paid for each episode in which they appear and they weren't really carrying all the money. As it turns out, the contestants aren't carrying tens of thousands of dollars in their backpacks after all, but they are carrying some cash "The bags of money, the outside [layer] of the money is real and then the inside is fake money. But, there are still thousands of dollars in each one of those bags" I think there's a legitimate possibility that none of them make it, but I hope I'm wrong. I do know that host and actor Manu Bennett had a chance to travel through the course before the contestants arrived at the base. https://www.cinemablend.com/interviews/are-the-summit-contestants-carrying-bags-prize-money-executive-producer-explains

Apparently there was another Summit in Australia where "charlotte" won and was allowed to determine the split of the money. She took $336,000 for herself and gave the other 2 finishers $100,000 each. https://9now.nine.com.au/the-summit/2024-premiere-date-contestants-what-to-expect-everything-to-know-season-2-explainer/688733e1-a028-44a2-a61f-a40fa05378e5

So we will see if CBS changes the ending for the US competitors. I don't see how CBS could have them on a show without a stipend, but maybe they don't have to pay one if they are filming out of the US. I know Survivor pays based on how you finish, not a set dollar per show.

there is no way that the producers would allow the show to end with no one getting money

Dipo, there were 2 Australian shows and they both ended differently
