Is there such a thing as minor kidney failure - isn't it failure or keeps on running? From what I understand one kidney shut down, the other was fine, so maybe it was a blockage of some sort.

There is no such thing as mild kidney failure, but there is kidney injury. It can be caused by medication or dehydration or any number of things. Could be that high altitude vacation and over-exertion/dehydration coupled with medication? If he's not on dialysis, it's not likely serious, and may well correct itself once the cause is fixed. But you do have to be hospitalized until things are back to normal, since it's very dangerous.

Diabetes can cause kidney failure too. We've been dealing with it with my aunt for 10 years or so now. Everything was diagnosed at once, she spent maybe a week or two in the hospital getting stabalized, learning to deal with diabetes, etc. Since then, dr keeps a very close eye on her kidney functions, but no dialysis.

From LA Times
quote: In the medical community, Becker said via a media rep, there really is no term called "mild kidney failure," but he speculates that Cannon might have been hospitalized for some decrease in kidney function. Acute kidney failure, according to the Mayo Clinic, refers to the sudden inability of the kidneys to achieve their main purpose: flushing extra fluids, waste material and salts from the blood. When that happens, those things may build up in the body. Causes of Cannon's condition, Becker added, could include an illness, dehydration, or taking an over-the-counter medication such as Motrin or Advil. "For someone to have it and to be hospitalized raises an extra level of concern," he said. As to how fast Cannon, the host of "America's Got Talent" could recover, Becker said if the condition is mild, it would then depend on the cause -- more fluids would help him get back to normal if he's dehydrated, or if it's related to another illness, it may get better over time.
Hopefully he was just dehydrated.. Whole article: (and a nice pic of Nick) http://tinyurl.com/6wyf3xv

Gal, I am 30 and I have kidney problems. I've suffered infections and stones for a long time now. You can get dehydrated and get stones, which can cause the organ can fail. Some people are more prone to them than others. I've had kidney infections/stones that have landed me in the hospital. It's not fun (well, not until they give you that morphine drip and you start seeing little critters all over the room).

It could just be a kidney stone (can be pretty painful).

I"m hearing now that he is in a hospital in LA, but I thought he fell ill here in Colorado, so they moved him?

Nick Cannon was on CNN the other night, here is a link to CNN and the write up: http://articles.cnn.com/2012-03-09/entertainment/showbiz_nick-cannon-on-the-fight-for-his-life_1_nick-cannon-monroe-and-moroccan-kidneys?_s=PM:SHOWBIZ I look and didn't see a thread for "Canada's Got Talent"? Anyone watching it? I haven't watched yet but I'm only taping the Vancouver auditions to see if I recognize anyone. Martin Short is one of the judges.

I'm so disappointed. I thought the whole Howard Stern stuff had to do with him being a judge on American Idol. Since I gave up on that show quite a while ago, I figured, no biggie for me. Then I see an ad, and find out he's going to be a judge on America's Got Talent (not AI as I originally thought). Crap. Looks like I have to take another show off my DVR. I don't think I can even stand to watch one show even to give him a chance. blech.

I think Howard is going to surprise a lot of people who this idea he is some kind of monster or some dirty porn guy. I cant wait to see him on AGT--he will bring a lot to the show.

He is a dirty porn guy. Hopefully he will behave himself on this show. But I won't be watching, because I have an ethical issue with his past behavior.

Won't be watching AGT specifically because he's on it. Stern makes my skin crawl and my slapping hand itch.

Add me to your non-watching group. This was one of my favorite shows but I'll pass with Stern on there. It's the ick/sick factor when I even think about him.

Cracks me up. I am the exact opposite. I never watched AGT before because it looked cheesy and will only tune because of Howard. As a daily listener of Howard I see him exactly opposite of you guys. I see him as honest, loyal, caring, considerate, amazing husband, father, brother and he is actually somewhat conservative. He is not doing his radio show on AGT and is simply there to Judge talent. He is taking the job very seriously. Also I love his parents Ben and Ray and I heard during one of the auditions Ben gets on stage and I can't wait to see that. I am not looking to debate or change anyone's minds. It is simply how I view him after listening to him for 15 years and watching him evolve as a human and his show evolve along with him. Do I enjoy ALL his humor or ALL the stunts they do on the show, NO, but that 10% isn't enough to turn me away.

but that 10% isn't enough to turn me away. It is for me. I learned a long time ago that if someone does things you find horribly immoral, (even if only 10% of the time), you are better off dismissing them from your life. And Howard is exactly that for me. I won't endorse that 10% by watching him at any time.
