Wow! I have to say, NBC might have made the right move. We're 6 months from this show airing for the first time and look at all the talk on ONE bulletin board. I don't have an opinion one way or the other on Howard. Though I will say I do NOT believe he's a purveyor of porn. I think he's a shock jock. Nothing less, nothing more. I also think he's much smarter than a lot of people give him credit for, and will behave appropriately - or the bottom line is, he'll be fired. He knows that. Again, he's not stupid. As far as judging honestly and maybe harshly. I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Like Jimmer, I have a hard time with the young kids that go on this show and keep getting put through regardless of their talent, but because of their cuteness! I think that's FAR WORSE, then being honest up front with them that they simply aren't good enough to go forward. And someone up-thread made a comment about how Howard better not put through just the skimpy dressed girls, etc (can't remember exact quote). I'm sorry, but Piers would get that dumb-man, tongue rolling out of his mouth look on his face as well and put talent-less, less than half dressed women through as well! Frankly, I'm just glad Piers is gone. Don't like him!

See, here is where we disagree It doesn't matter. I am not trying to change minds. I just know as listener what type of person he is and it's not the cruel, evil, angry, hateful, pervert, or whatever adjective people perceive him to be. You do not know what kind of person he is anymore than any of us do, You, too, just perceive him, your judgement as a regular listener is no more valued than any of the rest of us, it is just you accept his behavior, some of us do not accept it - that is the difference. It is not as if I have not been aware of the man for xx many years and have never listened to him, he just crossed the line in a big way for me and there is no going back, there had been previous times he crossed that line and I tolerated it, but was not pleased, but joking about the woman's death was way too much for me. You either were not listening that day or tolerate it, more in perspective, your choice. Adding to that I just never found humor in extensive fart jokes, I feel the right to pass on him. If we can KNOW him, than I know him as a self centered bully who is desperate to be a cool guy but was probably outsider in grammer school and became desperate to do anything to be cool and the way he found to do it was to be as offensive as possible. Personally, when it comes to radio, I prefer the humor of 'wait wait don't tell me' or Leonard Lopate. If you can go into the past, I loved the "goon show" the likes of which is never heard today. (only heard it in retro repeats on US radio, I am not that old). Different strokes and everyone's opinion is valid.

I simply disagree. Listening 2-5 hours a day, 2-5 days a week for over 10 years I feel I can pick up on nuances that a person who only has tuned in a couple times wouldn't know. I have a feel for what is sincere and what is schtick. I understand his background, his history, his relationship with his parents, his belief's etc. To say a non-listener or someone that has tuned a couple times has the same knowledge or understanding as someone who has listened daily for over a decade is simply just not true. Again I am not trying to change minds, but there is a reason he is beloved by his peers, his employees, celebrities and his fans. Didn't I say I wasn't posting anymore here, lol P.S. I have stated before there are many bits he has done that I disagree with or found completely distasteful. For me those times are few and far between. I just change the channel as we are all free to do and what many of you will do when the season airs. Just like I did with The Talk when they gave Holly and Leah the shaft.

I agree that someone who listens to someone on a regular and extensive basis probably has a more rounded opinion of the person and his better and worse qualities. The nice things that Howard may say and do on a regular basis are not particularly newsworthy and casual listeners (or non-listeners) are much more likely to hear the bad stuff. All the same though, he has made a number of very egregious remarks, those are a fact and in the record and it is not unreasonable to dislike him based on that as well. The thing stopping me from watching the show isn't Howard. It's that they have young kids on the show and I don't enjoy seeing young kids rejected.

Jimmer, that's certainly a problem for me also, however, a fairly young woman won one year, didn't she? I thought she was only 12 or 13? That's part of the issue I have with Howard. He agrees that young ones shouldn't be on the show. So why agree to judge a show that you disagree with philosophically? Why not say "I'll be a judge, but you have to have an age limit." Heck, they moved the show to NY for him, I can't believe they wouldn't have done that also. but instead, he's just going to tell them they suck and berate their parents. <shaking head>

Agreed but instead, he's just going to tell them they suck and berate their parents. He isn't going to do that. That is Howard being grandiose. That is the type of nuance that non-listeners don't get.

I guess we'll see. I did listen to those post Columbine shows, and I listened to his interview with Piers Morgan. It wasn't nuance and it wasn't funny, it was just mean. It still doesn't change my point - he *clearly* disagrees with the show's philosophy on having children - so he should have said no children, or chose to not be part of it. That's what *I* call ethical behavior. And he is not ethical.

Well, I don't think I am a stranger posting about something I know nothing about, a make friend of mine kept telling me how clever and witty Howard was, so I listened to him every day on my 2 hour commute home until he did the thing about the woman dying. I can absolutely say Stern and I do not share a sense of humor, I never found him clever in those 3 months, maybe it was a bad time for him, but I have given him a fair amount of time, I also do not have my head in the sand and have seen a bit of his TV show and seen him on other shows. There is nothing invalid about my opinion and there is no need for me to change my opinion or to give this man another listen. I did my time with him and it is happily over. If you enjoy him, fine, just do not tell me I would enjoy him if I gave him a chance - been there, did that, don't need to suffer through any more. Hey, I used to enjoy Imus when he was on drugs, but since he got clean he seems much more mean spirited and bitter to me, and I never got into drug culture, find it most repulsive in fact - what can I say, an opinion is just that and nothing more.

I can't imagine listening for three months to someone on the radio that I didn't like. I'm not sure why you were so determined. You are much more dedicated than I am.

I did it because I was being hassled at work by the guys and thought I would fit in better if I could join in on the conversation, Lord knows I could not get them to take the nudie calendars down and the other choice to listen to was Rush Limbaugh, I do have my limits. After a while I just decided I did not have to make friends, just dazzle them with my work and bring in cookies, that did it. When they ran low on money, they laid off the other guy, the cool guy, who spent more time schmoozing than working. There are things you do when you are self employed to get an in with people, to get your contracts renewed, my husband was unemployed then, I needed to keep that job and I am a pragmatist.

I don't particularly like her 'talent' (or lack thereof), but she'll definitely be judgmental on the show.

LOL I thought you would like that Mame ;) I hate country music, but Natalie can SING. I love her rendition of Landslide. ETA: To be clear, she was not offered the job. She just heard about them adding a 4th Judge and she says she wants the gig.

Meh, I just don't think she has any melodic aspects to her voice or singing style. I saw her in concert a couple years ago and nothing really wowed me. It was very monotone and I can hear that in her studio albums too. But hey, to each their own, right? But I will agree she's did Landslide better than Stevie Nicks, who to me, sounds like a goat.

You are braver than me Escapee. A whole concert of country music I would want to shoot myself before it's over. That said I do love old school Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. I also like a couple Rascall Flatts songs. That is my limit though.

See, I'm not a big Rascall Flatts fan either. However, I am a BIG fan or REAL country (George Strait, Garth, Reba, Johnny, etc.) But then again, I'm a country girl. They actually opened for Tim McGraw that time (Who I've seen in concert 3 or 4 times).

Nick Cannon hospitalized with "mild kidney failure" http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/01/04/us-nickcannon-idUSTRE8031LJ20120104 He's only 31 years old, so this is pretty shocking.

Natalie Maines? Eh.. but then I wasn't going to be watching anyway. Strange about Nick. Some comments on the article I saw (huffpo) mentioned steroids being a possible cause of the kidney failure, but I was certainly surprised. The picture Mariah posed for seemed a bit odd if she was really worried (I'd be worried.) but I suppose when you live on Twitter you try to keep it humorous. He may also have a congenital Kidney problem

This just sounds like it will be about the judges more than about the talent.. or MORE about the judges than every before?

I don't understand how a 31 year old otherwise healthy man goes into kidney failure. What are the causes of this? I am ashamed to admit that I like the Dixie Chicks, but it has much more to do with the two instrumentalist sisters than with anything Natalie Maines has to offer. If we can shunt her off in a corner with Howard Stern I would become an AVID non-watcher of America's Got Talent. Right now I'm just a passive non-watcher. I like Britain's Got Talent, they get some real oddball and unexpected acts on that version of the show. I still go back and laugh at the Greek Flatley dancers. And I still go back and listen to Susan Boyle's original auditon sometimes. She's actually turned into something of a cabaret singer at this point (my neighbor is a huge fan), but they've stopped trotting her out into uncomfortable situations and I think she's in a very good place in life. Topic? Natalie Maines and Howard Stern can have each other. If only they'd leave the rest of us alone.
