I just talked to the real estate agent about that little blue house. It doesn't officially go on the market until Sept 1, and I am going to see the next day after that I think. The inside photos are supposed to go up Sept 1, and I hope it looks move in ready or I'm skipping it.

I have an appt to see the little blue house on Tuesday. I hope I am ready to let this place go after 32 years. I picture myself moving out and I start to cry. I have to tell myself "My utility bills would half!" and "My Taxes would be less than half!".

That would be an emotional experience. I seem to recall you having some fun and pretty results as you were decorating various rooms of your house. Perhaps that would be an enjoyable something to look forward to should you move.

As I recall, the little blue house is all one floor, no steps as you get older. Good plan.

After thinking hard on this, I've decided it's too big of a job for just me alone to move right now quickly. I have no one to help and not enough money to hire help. I'll have to clear the house slowly until spring, and then move. That feels a bit less stressful for me.

I drove past the little blue house today on the way home from the dentist. No wonder they weren't ready to show it today. They still have the big dumpster out front. It doesn't seem like anyone is living in it right now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akevR3SzaEo

That's quite a backyard on that house.

Naja are there neighbour's teenagers who can help you with the heavy chores? I can't bend because of my bad back, so I pay a 17 year old boy in my building to help me out 2x a week.

That is a major dumpster in the driveway. That’s right up there with the size used for major demolition and renovations.

I am waiting to see the inside photos when they're posted. Maybe I'll get my excitement back and be motivated.

Mame, I have a teenage girl I call sometimes. She helps with the yard. I bet she would help with this.

There's something I don't understand. Since your SS Benefits or Survivor Benefits are lowered if you make over a certain amount of money (while you're getting the benefits) then what happens if you sell your house? Especially if you buy one of lower value?

Naja, selling your house doesn't impact your social security. That is an asset, not income. I did some work after I started taking social security and had to pay back 2 months distributions, I had planned for it. But when I sold my house I just put the money into savings and started earning interest.

This made me laugh. After I find a house on a realty website, I always go look at it on google maps to see how it looked before they "dolled" it up. And then I spin around to see what the house across the street looks like that I'll have to see every day out my front windows. The house across the street on this one stunned me a little. LOL Here's the house on google maps, and you have to spin around like I did. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.0852652..../

I love it! I wouldn't mind having to look at it every day. It reminds me of Miami and how some of the neighborhoods with Carribean people would paint their houses. I always found it cheerful.

The whole street with the trees, etc, just looks so peaceful and a relaxed feel to it.

There are so many inexpensive homes in that area but it's the wrong side of town. Anything west of Noland road is considered the part of town going downhill because that's the side that borders Kansas City.

In California with prop 13 still hanging in here, your property taxes go up but slowly, while home prices have shot up. So even if you downsize, the taxes on the new place might be higher than your taxes were on a longtime property. Like I have been here 31 years and bought when housing prices had dropped. I hate to think what a small place would cost, if there was one around here. I realize, situations differ radically from state to state, even city to city.

The ad itself says "move in ready" and last years taxes on it were $1,138. While my taxes on this house last year were $3,210. This year mine go down about $700 because they were illegally raised the last 2 years. But that's still way more than the little blue house.

Yep.. different rules. Just one reason it is hard comparing cost of living state to state. I hope the little blue house is great inside, or something better pops up. You certainly have a lot of sweat equity and so many memories in your current home, so there is that, too.

Well, they posted the pictures of the inside of that little house and I find the floor plan unlivable. There isn't even a place for a kitchen table unless you put it in the living room and the laundry hook up is in the bathroom! The appliances are dreadful. I think they chose the tiniest capacity washer and dryer as well. I need large capacity for rugs and comforters. The colors are dreadful and I thought that would be the living room through the windows in front next to the front door, but it's a bedroom! I can't stand the floor plan at all.

The floor plan is a common problem with small houses.
