I'm not sure what thread to put this in, so I'll put it in the not sure what thread to put this in thread. And I'll make a long story short. Friday night I discovered someone had hacked into one of my online accounts. Their email address was attached to it in addition to mine. I disconnected them from the account and changed the password. They attempted to regain access to the account, I know that because I got an email each time they tried. After failing to get back in they then sent me an email. I'll paraphrase their email, and it was short. It said I would be murdered that night if I didn't give them the new password. I was very frightened, maybe excessively so, but I'm easily affected by threats of murder. I called the local sheriff's office and they sent two officers to take a report. I was very grateful for their quick response. Thankfully nothing happened, and likely never will but it still scares me and I'll be very wary for awhile until the memory of the threat fades. Hackers are real and they're everywhere. Be careful with your accounts and passwords, and be vigilant. In the last several months I've had two of my accounts successfully hacked, and two others that failed but they did try. Be safe.

I am so sorry, Weinermr! How horrifying! Occasionally I get texts or emails warning someone is trying to gain access to one of my accounts. I'll get sent those one time access codes when it's not me trying to gain access.

That’s awful. Apparently these horrific threats aren’t uncommon and they don’t amount to anything but it would be terrifying and uncomfortable nonetheless.

It's so very hard to know what threats are real and which ones aren't these days. Difficult times.

Thank you. I can imagine all I want that it was some hacker thousands of miles away in a foreign country, which is what it probably was. I can also wonder though if it was someone a half mile away from me with evil intentions and no one to stop them. Sigh....

Exactly.. And no longer can we rely on a phone number to reveal a location. They can easily be spoofed. I have gotten calls from my own name and number

I just got a notice today that the local medical imaging provider where I get my mammograms and bone density, and MRI's, etc. was compromised, and all of my information might be exposed. Ack!!! Oh!!! I didn't even think, but I bet that was in January when DOGE was rampaging through all Govt. databases. Just checked, yep, Jan. 25, 2025, for five days. Thanks, T.

I just put two and two together and realized I saw the UPS DC-11 that crashed in Louisville in San Antonio. It was at an aircraft maintenance facility next the the San Antonio International Airport. I had just dropped my wife off for her trip to DC and noticed the UPS plane outside one of the hangars. I doubled checked her calendar from back then and the news report of when the plane was in San Antonio. Unfortunately the routine maintenance did not include inspecting the engine mounts. Interestingly in 1979 my now ex but then future wife was an Army Nurse Recruiter in Detroit. She was supposed to be on American Airlines flight 191 out of Chicago. She was on her way to visit her parents in San Diego. Her commuter flight from Detroit to Chicago was late and she missed the flight. That was a DC-10, a previous model of the DC-11, that also lost its left engine on takeoff killing all on board.
