No, not here, or at least not that I know of.
In England there are a lot of rows of narrow detached houses, and some people do try to claim the space in front of them with something. But it doesn't sounds as respected as your Pittsburgh chair, as odds are someone will take your spot anyway.

Not here. In fact, we have neighbors that need to park in front of our house every day. We have parking in our driveway so it is not necessary for us but we laugh at them because as soon as one car moves out, they have another car right there to park. It doesn't even matter what time it is, it could be 5 am, they move a car. I said they must sit in front by their window just waiting when someone else has gotten the spot. They have a very long driveway and they park in front of their house as well. They only have three cars so it is pretty ridiculous.

Nope, parking is first come, first served, no saving allowed unless you are personally standing in the spot while the car goes around the block.

I meant where I live now I've never seen it. But then again, I don't live in the city like I did when I lived in Chicago. There's ample parking room where I live now.

Mamie316, that would annoy me! I once had a neighbor knock on my door to tell me that I parked my care in front of her house, lol. Lady, like I don't know that and..???? She said "it's my parking spot", I had to school her on the fact that it was the street not her driveway.
I would not have parked in front of her house had the neighbor on the other side not parked in front of mine(they were having a rare party.)
The complaining neighbor also didn't want our kids to retrieve balls from their yard, meanwhile his kids played in my yard all the time. weird people
