Singer Joni Sledge passed away at the age of 60. No known reason yet. She and her sisters (Sister Sledge) gave us "We Are Family". I dare anyone not to sing, dance or clap along when they hear that one!

Kappy, lost the dare (just listened to "we are family"). Only 60 years old. Too young. I didn't clap though.

I don't know if I would clap, but like the song.

It always takes me to The Birdcage and that scene with Robin Williams and others at club coming down the stairs with Gene Hackman who was sneaking out of the gay nightclub..

One of the best "staying home with a bowl of popcorn" movies!

This is what has stayed with me all these years, the opening credits with the seamless transition from the ocean to inside the club. Way before drones. I still don't know how they did it.

It says "helicopter steadcam" shot.

IMO Hank Azaria stole the movie - hard to do with Robin Williams and Nathan Lane.

Yes, up and until they got on shore. They made a pretty seamless transition to the shore and into the club. Anyway, on the big screen it was a pretty amazing scene.

We Are Family always takes me back to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 80s. And I live in California!

I realize we are way off topic here, but isn't it lovely how songs evoke memories. My favorite song/movie combo is probably Rachmaninov (sp?) in Somehwere in Time.

I agree, too, re Hank Azaria. The torture he went through with having to wear shoes.....lol.

"The First Lady of Song," Ella Fitzgerald, was born 100 years ago today in Newport News, VA.

"The only thing better than singing is more singing"

Here she is doing what she loved best with her friend Frank Sinatra in 1967.

And here she is in one of her last public performances in 1990, again with Mr Sinatra, when he won the Society of Singers Award. He was the second winner; she was the first. The award is called The Ella because what else would the Society of Singers call its award?

RIP, lovely Ella.

He is. Born in NY, but grew up / lived in Chicago. Not popular in the entertainment community here.
