I think there is a difference between being able to create a "mental image" of something and remembering something. I am good at remembering things from long ago, but I can't necessarily conjure up a clear and crisp "picture" of it with colour and sound. I recall it, but I don't "see it" if that makes sense. Juju2bigdog, it seems that you have some kind of precognition. My dreams are very vivid and memorable. Often, I can work out complex things while I'm sleeping. Once, I wrote a complete movie with all the scenes in my dream. My sleeps are strangely productive. I had a work meeting yesterday and we talked about a lot of things. This morning, I woke up with the full list of ideas which I transcribed in bullet points for the team.

When I was working, especially when heavily into programming, I would have dreams about logic and code, loops.. All as if I was inside the program. Exhausting! I tend to see things in 3 dimensions so I don't see it as unusual.

Report: Yesterday I did the visualization exercise with the square blocks (using the link above), I was able to mentally see all the colors vividly! Last night, I had so many very clear dreams and it's so strange. I paid particular attention to the colour of everything. This morning, I can recite all the activities in my dreams along with the things I saw AND the color of everything! If nothing else, that exercise really brought my dreams to life. I am going to try it again today.

Question: Do you dream in color?

I dream in color and I also dream in 3D like Seamonkey does. When I dream, I'm not looking at things "through my eyes", but hovering above myself looking at the whole scene from different perspectives. For example, last night I dreamt that I was sitting in a movie theater watching a moving in front of me, sitting behind and above me was my sister her hands were on my shoulders (like you would massage someone's shoulders.) Almost like I was a drone, I was watching from the back of us (seeing my sister, myself, and the movie) then hovering around until I was in front of myself looking at my face and my sister behind. It's a strange perspective. It's hard to describe. I hope this makes any sense at all. Also, just to answer the question. I could see the colors on the movie screen brightly. In the darkish theater, the chair was a shiny metal grey. My sister's reddish brown hair was clear as day. I also hovered down and looked closely at shiny olive green marbles that someone had dropped on the dull brushed red/grey carpet of the theater. My other dreams last night were very colorful. I can recall them very well this morning. Maybe practicing visualizing colors during the daytime helps create more colorful dreams?

Yes I dream in color. My dreams look like real life to me. The third person perspective dream sounds cool.

Mameblanche, loved that you spelled it "colour" I have been trying to spell it the American way, but sometimes I forget.

I dream in very vivid color and very vivid detail such as moonlight glinting off of a moving knife blade.

I spelled it with a "u" but my iPhone changed it to "color". And just like that, I gave up my Canadian identity.

I absolutely refuse to remove the "u"s from my words, but sadly some spell checkers do it for you. I did not know the answer to this question until the other day. I don't often remember dreams, and if I do it's usually just for an instant then it's gone. But after I learned about the aphantasia of course the next question is about dreams, and I had no idea. Then the next morning I woke up and I had just noticed a bright green marrow under my squash (those ones you don't notice growing, then suddenly you see them and they're enormous), so yes I guess I do dream in colour!

I also include people in dreams but not in their normal context. The other day Josh and another HG were in a dream, not in the BB house.

My dad passed away 10 years ago, and I often dream of him as if he is alive, but just living in another city. The experience is always very joyful. It feels so real and believable that when I wake up I want to relive every detail of the dream. I also lost a pet that was very, very close to me. I have a reoccurring dream with her face so close to me that I can see the glint in her eyes, feel her breathing, and sense her love for me and my love for her. I always look forward to having that dream again and Patches never fails me. I love when all my senses come alive like that in my dreams (seeing, smelling, touching, feeling, hearing etc.) Of course that can be scary when the dream is not so nice. Luckily, I don't suffer from nightmares too much at all.

That is lovely, seeing a beloved pet! This morning, I woke up, but went back to sleep. I had a graphic dream where there was this purple rash on one side of my chest. I thought, I have shingles! I have to call my doctor. Woke up and had to check the area, since it was so real!

It's so nice that you have the chance to visit with your Dad and Patches in your dreams. I loved my Dad so much and I dream about him fairly often even though he has been gone for many years now. His health was very precarious for years before he died so some of the dreams aren't always good ones but most of them are wonderful.

It sounds like a lot of us have very rich dreams. My husband never remembers any of his dreams. I think that's sad. I feel like I live another whole life in my dreams.

I always have dreamed in color. When I dream of people (parents, both passed away 10 years ago), myself, my kids, and others, everyone is always very much younger.

I had thought about making this a poll question, since it is related, feel free to answer also. I heard a conversation about common dreams and what they mean. Almost all were about not being in control of something. They included teeth falling out, falling, can't find my car, climbing up something shaky. These are all common dreams for me. I also dream about tornadoes quite often.

I am often in college, and it is near the end of the semester, and I have not attended ANY of the classes. Worse yet, I don't even know the times of the classes or what building they are in.

I often dream of myself flying. Heckagirl631, I have only once dreamed of teeth falling out (that I recall.) I have dreamed of being in a falling elevator and it's falling so fast that I'm stuck on the ceiling. Juju2bigdog, I have similar dreams where I am not ready for something. I think they are common for people who are always hardworking, contentious, and very prepared. That describes me. One of my most important things in real life is that I'm always early or on time for everything. I'm never ever late. Yet, I have lots of frustrating dreams where I am trying to get ready but it's just not working and I know that I'm going to be very late, but I keep trying and trying. For example, I'm packing and I just can't seem to get everything packed up fast enough. Or people are waiting for me in the car, but I'm completely not ready. I still have to shower, dress, makeup, do my hair and all the while they are waiting.
