I love my crockpot - that darned Instant Pot (which I actually plugged in on Saturday to see if it would come up to pressure...and then unplugged it!) can also double as a crockpot - but I love my current crockpot so I'm not willing to give it up. Hate to cook but love to bake. I probably make at least 2-3 cakes a month for various activities (church, birthday parties, etc.). My stove gets more work than my stovetop.

I found some fresh garlic cloves at work. Not sure how to store them. What do you cook with garlic?

I store my garlic in a bowl on my countertop, along with my onions. And I use garlic in just about everything I cook, pasta sauce, egg dishes, salad dressing/salad, baked dishes, green beans. Mostly I mince / slice or use my zester to make it even more tiny, LOL.

New Q: I am making King Crab & Potato Salad. So here is my question, my order of crab meat wasn't delivered, so do you think Tuna would work? Here is the recipe. 3/4 pound green beans, trimmed 1 1/2 pounds small red-skinned potatoes, cut into eighths 1 3/4 pounds cooked king crab legs, thawed if frozen (see Tip), meat removed and cut into 1-inch pieces 3 stalks celery, thinly sliced 6 radishes, halved and thinly sliced 1 small red onion, diced 1 clove garlic, crushed 3 tablespoons lemon juice 2 tablespoons white-wine vinegar 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard 5 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 2 tablespoons minced fresh basil 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper

I Googled if you can substitute tuna for crab in recipes, Di and it seems as if you can. The only caveat I have is, if it's canned it may fall apart to nothing. If it's a cooked tuna fish I'm guessing add it at the end, to keep the chunks intact.

Thank you, I didn't even think to google substitutions, LOL. I think I will make the salad without meat and see how that is, then I can add some tuna (yes, it's in a can), separately. That way if it doesn't taste that great I still have a potato/green bean salad.

Turned out ok, but it's not a recipe I will repeat. I think it is supposed to be a substitute for potato salad. I prefer potato salad, LOL. And I love green beans so I think I will just keep them separate from now on.

I love potatoe (sorry, learned to spell it with an "e" as a child, same with tomatoe...lol) salad but I only use 4 ingredients. Hellman's Mayonnaise (the olive oil variety now, as it's healthier for you), potatoes, spring onions (green onions) and lots of eggs. This is how my Mum made it for us growing up and my older brother and I believe it is the only "true" potatoe salad. Ha ha ha Plus, it's GOT to be Hellman's. P.s Another super quick salad she'd also make, learned from a German friend of hers; Julienne the following: Ham, green peppers, mushrooms and an apple. There are no quantities, you just cut up the amount you want...lol Then mix all in a bowl, with Hellman's of course and serve immediately because the mayo will go liquid-y from the ingredients, if it sits around too long. Takes 5-10 minutes tops to prepare, depending on your quantity and the adeptness you have with a knife. ;) I haven't come across anyone who didn't like it, so far.

I would not think of cauliflower as a carb. I don't follow diet stuff, but I would say cauliflower could be one of those things you can eat unlimited amounts of. Of course, do go eating twenty cauliflowers tonight until a greater authority stops by. Edit: Oopsie, I had left the tab open for a while and did not see Jimmer's response ahead of mine.

It is low carb. Atkins even uses it as a substitute for mashed potatoes.

New Q: Do you think thawed frozen squeezed spinach will work in soup instead of fresh?

I was guessing yes, you probably can but I always Google, so I won't give you lousy advice, Dipo. According to this site, yes you can use frozen. http://thedecadeofshe.blogspot.ca/2011/08/frozen-spinach-is-not-always-substitute.html

I would think you could always substitute frozen spinach, except in salad. I've always eaten spinach with eggs scrambled into them, with butter and salt, of course. That's how my mom always made it. Poke salat is eaten the same way.

This is probably a stupid question and one I'm half ashamed I don't know the answer to since I love my crockpot, but can you cook a whole chicken in the crockpot? How long does it take, if you can?

Yes, you can cook a whole chicken in the crockpot from what I see online. 4-4 1/2 hours on high or 6 1/2 to 8 hours on low. I have not done this myself. My question, does anyone have a good recipe for caramel cake or know why I can find a mix? Just caramel, not apple caramel or salted caramel. Duncan Hines used to have a mix. I hate it when things I really like go away.

Wargod, I haven't ever tried it but I can't see why not. I often cook several thighs and drumsticks without other stuff and you can do baked potatoes so I would think it would be like that. Sugar, can't help you there, nothing on google?
