Does cheese go bad? I have a little plastic bowl of feta cheese, can't find a best by date, and it hasn't ever been opened. I bought it sometime this year, but I don't remember how long ago. Also what about shredded cheddar cheese, does it last past the best by date? I have a couple of bags of that as well. Trying to decide if I need to throw it out and buy some more.

Ok, I finally got the still tasty site to work and I guess I am tossing it all and getting some new even though it looks fine.

Has anyone ever cooked a turkey roast in a crock pot? I will google but thought I would see if anyone has any personal experience. I usually pick up one of those butterball breast/dark meat roasts for Thanksgiving because a whole turkey is just to much for two! Was thinking about just throwing it in the crock pot.

Dipo, can't help you with the turkey, but shredded cheese is okay until you start to see mold. IMO.

Dipo, I have cooked a turkey breast in the crock pot many times. I usually do mine without seasoning, but you can add anything you want. Of course, it doesn't brown, but the meat is very moist and tasty. I like to use the breast with the skin on it and take the skin off after it cooks. The skin/fat gives it a bit more flavor.

Karuuna, thanks, the still tasty site said I should get rid of it, but it looks perfectly fine and two of the packages have never even been opened. Thanks Jeep, I prefer the dark meat so maybe I will give it a try.

Well, cheese can still go bad, even if it's not opened. It depends on how much moisture is in the package. It's all about the mold. For me.

There is good mold and bad mold - blue, green or fuzzy mold is perfectly fine. Shades of yellow or pink indicate spoilage. Mold is easily wiped off with a one part vinegar to ten parts water solution. Use this solution with a clean cloth to gently take away surface mold. I usually just cut the mold off and unless it is all the way into the center it is usually just fine.

Speaking of mold...are you supposed to eat the thick white outside of Brie?

Depends on the taste. I try a small amount and if good I will eat it if bitter then I don't. It doesn't hurt you to eat it.

That's good to know because I always eat it - I love Brie so much that I don't want to waste a single bit...LOL!

So the turkey was originally cooked on Wednesday, even though it was cooked for 3/5 hours for a 12 pounder, when I carved it the legs did not seem done. The breast was, even tho my sister said she had used the temp gauge in several different places. So, on Thursday I threw the leg/thigh, still connected, into the oven for an hour. It is done....has been in the fridge since then. Is it still okay to eat? I had a bit yesterday and it was fine, so I don't know if it is ok for another day.

I'll be eating on my turkey for several days, Dipo. Unless it's been left out for a long period of time I don't see any reason why not.

Cool, thanks, I was thinking it was fine, just need to figure out what to make with it, or maybe just a turkey sandwich, LOL.

Is there a difference between food processors with attachments? I want to buy one but not sure if there is a difference aside from size.

Hmm, Noellepv, do you mean different blades and things like that? My food processor had several round blades that sat on top of a plastic pole, they made different cuts like julienne or thin slices. Or is there some other attachment you are talking about?

Dipo, what Jimmer said. You are good for several more days. Just try to have fairly sterile cutting surfaces when you have it out to cut pieces off, and don't have it out long (like hours), and you should be fine.

NEW Q: I am making a beef stew and it calls for 1 and 1/2 cups of beer. But it doesn't say what kind, I don't drink beer so I don't have a clue what kind to buy. Any recommendations? TIA.

I never put booze in my cooking, Dipo...just a personal preference of mine. I'm sure it adds flavour but as I'm not much of a drinker at all-I'm too cheap to go buy it for a recipe! lol Here's a link which will give you an idea of what to pop into your delicious stew. http://www.thekitchn.com/cooking-with-beer-best-brews-f-106903

Dipo, just pick up a single bottle of dark ale at TJ's. It will work fine.
