Serena Williams plays tonight at 3pm PST/ 7pm EST at the US Open.
The first days of the Open are on ESPN, today 9am (PST) to 8pm (PST)

Serena Won!!! It was a great game. Some group did a Thank You ceremony after the game, it was planned whether she won or lost.
It was nice, got a little hokey for me as it went on and on. I mean I do agree she and Venus really did change Tennis so I am appreciative, it just seemed a tad excessive.
She has another match on Wednesday and will be playing doubles with Venus ... that will be cool.

Serena turned pro in 1995 at age 14 but really started full on in 1997 .. Venus and Serena definitely fall into the "transcend" category which sometimes is misused/overblown with athletes... the KIND of play for women tennis, the race factor, setting the bar to do other things while playing which extended playing life...

I think they are both in their 40's now, so that is right around 25 years!!
They did a bit of a montage at the "party" and OMG, they were both so young and enthusiastic about playing. It was glorious.

Here is the thing about Venus and Serena that will always stay with me, besides how fabulous they are/were to watch. Venus had beaten Serena in the US Open in the first womens single match to be shown on prime time TV. It was memorable for all the reasons (sisters in finals, both at top of game etc) and so every morning show had them on the next day. They were the headline for that week in such a joyous way. Then 9/11 happened.
