Mameblanche, thanks for the Bernie the Burglar suggestion. I was able to find the 1st and 2nd books of the series and enjoyed them. It is funny to read and remember times before cell phones and the internet.

The Goodbye Man the 2nd in the Colter Shaw series was good. I am a big Jeffery Deaver fan.

J K Rowling writes a series (using the pseudonym Robert Galbraith) about a modern British private detective named Cormoran Strike who solves murders. It’s very adult writing, not at all for children. I happen to like her writing and the series very much. The fifth book was released in September and she plans to keep writing them.

They’re absolutely marvelous, Sugar — I’m really thrilled with your response to them! Whenever anyone asks me to recommend a book, my immediate answer is, “The Eddie Flynn books by Steve Cavanagh!” He really makes the legal/crime thriller an incredibly fun experience.

Any new suggestions for a series? I'm looking for something that's more on the lighthearted side. A few I've enjoyed recently are: Lyssa Kay Adams (Bromance Book Club) Jen DeLuca (Well Met) Donna Andrews (Meg Lanslow) Jan Moran (Coral Cafe & Summer Beach Read) Laurie Gelman (Class Mom) Susan M Boyer (Liz Talbot Mystery) Sarah Morgenthaler (Moose Springs, Alaska) Thanks in advance for any ideas on some new ones!!

Maybe not completely light-hearted since it has to do with solving murders, but there is a kind of wry comedic writing weaved throughout. The Inspector Gamache series by Louise Penny. I'm on Book 3, and I'm really enjoying them. His characters are lively (and witty), and I enjoy them very much.

Any books by C.L. Wilson. My favorite book in a long time, the Sevenwaters trilogy by Juliet Marillier.

Love the recommendations. With respect to the Inspector Gamache series, does it take place in the present day or is it historical?

I've read Val McDermid's Karen Pirie series (6 books) and Margaret Kirk's Shadow Man series (3 books) this summer. McDermid is historical case/cold case detective and Kirk is Scottish Noir. Intelligently written and both set in Scotland, so for me it's a winning combo.
