I agree Karuuna. I don't like to see animals in captivity, but some of it has helped us learn about the animals, how to help them in the wild. I really hope that Sea World and others are changing how they treat these animals based on what they have learned (it broke my heart to see them take that kid whale from it's mother). Zoos have learned and adapted how they care for animals and Sea World can too. Allowing people to see these amazing creatures up close allows us to bond with them, support the cause to save and protect them, and donate $ for them. When we did the discovery cove (a Sea World company) dolphin swim they told us that they no longer take dolphins from the wild and I would hope it's the same for the whales They should only be helping injured animals that wouldn't survive, not pulling healthy animals from the wild. They should also be working to return animals to the wild, and if that's not possible with the whales, then they shouldn't breed more of them -- just take the injured in. I hope that this will cause Sea World and others to reevaluate what they are doing and why.

They don't take whales from the wild any more, AFAIK. They are all from captive breeding programs. Dolphins are however still captured by some groups (but not for US parks). There has been so much growth in the swim with the dolphins programs, the market has gone way up. And of course, some people still kill dolphins for food. SeaWorld actually has a very large rescue, rehab and return program for injured sea animals. That's another we fund by going to their parks.

Yeah, I saw that article on CNN just 2 minutes ago, saying that they haven't pulled whales from the wild in decades. Interesting that they are now putting out adds (sea world is). I'm surprised they didn't earlier. I would still go to a sea world park. I think good can come from criticism like this (and while I'm sure there's a lot of truth to the documentary, they did not set out to make a fair and balanced film, it was all one sided). There's no doubt that in the past the animals were often treated extremely poorly and what we know now makes it just painful to think of them being removed from the wild. Sometimes our lessons are learned the hard way.

I stumbled across The War on Netflix recently. I didnt even know which war it was about--just that it was Ken Burns film, which never fail to interest me. All I can say is this is an amazing documentary about a subject I'm sure everything thinks has been done so much there's nothing left to say! To many people today, World War 2 is ancient history, but not to me whose father fought in it. As a child, I would hear talk about this event and it always felt so close. But I do wish there had been some warning about graphic content because I didnt expect to see photos and film on the violent and brutal deaths of so many--oh I knew on a rational historical level that so many had suffered, but movies and books never showed it so plainly as this! I havent watched it all yet. I love seeing the real people who fought and were alive in this time and what their experiences were from their own lips. Also, I never realized the danger and bravery of the men who were sent in to film and record many of the battles and fighting--they were in real danger and captured so much of what was happening that none of us would have had access to. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0996994/?ref_=ttmd_md_nm

I finally caught up Searching for Sugar Man over the weekend. Oh my goodness - I was boo-hoo-hooing all over the place. I'm sure this film has already been discussed earlier, but for those who still haven't seen it, please put it on your list immediately. My eyes are still stinging from all the tear-duct activity!

You're welcome, Egbok and Reenie! Very, very sad about Mr. Bendjelloul. The story below features his brother reporting the death as a suicide. http://www.theguardian.com/film/2014/may/14/malik-bendjelloul-suicide-searching-for-sugar-man

I just watched the 6 part HBO documentary The Jinx: The Life and Deaths of Robert Durst. All I can say is WOW! I want to say more, but I think I am still processing it. I also watched Citizenfour which was very good.

Just finished "On the way to School" on Netflix. No narration, the filming speaks for itself. Covers the journeys that 4 children need to undertake just to get to schools in various corners of the world. I would love to find out ten yrs from now what has happened for all of them.

Oh yes, I watched The Wolfpack, Mamie. It's so hard to imagine why they didn't try to escape sooner. I mean it's hard to imagine feeling so unsafe that you wouldn't try. I love how movies kept them alive.

If anyone hasn't seen "13th" on Netflix yet, watch it. Really good documentary about the criminal justice system and mass incarceration.

Has anybody watched that new documentary on HBO called Tickled? Oh what a weird one. It's about a journalist from New Zealand who found something silly in the paper called "Competitive tickling". It sounded so silly and innocent to him he decided to do research on it. He opened up a very dark world (not porn) that even threatened him, besides the people actually involved in it.

I watched Finders Keepers last weekend. What a bizarre and odd story. I don't remember hearing about this situation yet it seems to have been quite the news item. I had no idea it was a documentary, I thought it was going to be an odd little comedy. Guess I should read the details.

Chasing Coral produced by Netflik. How warming oceans have killed 29% of the Great Barrier Reef. In the few months of filming you could see beautiful corals bleached white.

Naja I just watched "Tickled" and came here to see if anyone else saw it. I liked it. I know someone who is big into fetishes so I had heard about this but I was still shocked to see a film about it.

I have been the same exact way. The last few years I started watching them more often. I'll Be Gone In The Dark, was like a book I couldn't put down. It's about a journalist that becomes interested and then obsessed with the Golden State Killer murders. Michelle McNamara who happened to be the actor, Patton Oswald's wife. Over the years she started putting clues together interviewing survivors little by little it was her that put the whole story together. It's riveting. The other ones are a little off the beaten track. Like me LOL The last one 306 Hollywood, is a tribute of the life of the docu makers mother. They do it in such a way. It is unique to say the least.

Watch “The Last Movie Stars” on HBO Max - a six part documentary directed by Ethan Hawke about Paul Newman and Joanne Woodman, inspired by a shelved project Newman started decades ago. George Clooney voices Newman from the archived transcripts of interviews. But the old footage is so great as you piece together Paul and Joanne’s lives among the backdrop of film history. Also watch The Day the Music Died: American Pie, on Paramount+. Anyone that has memories of Don McLean’s American Pie will enjoy finally finding out its backstory - but also interviews with family/people connected to Buddy, Ritchie, and the big Bopper, and Clear Lake where the plane crafted …plus musicians inspired by American Pie.

My mom had it so I totally get where his mind was at. She had visions of people trying to hurt her and she was just so scared. It is an awful disease.
