I agree but since this is a prequel I will give it a look :-) If it was a remake, no way!

Gene Wilder as Wonka is one of my All Time Favorite Movies -- that I loved the new Wonka! It's charming and fun and there are little nods to the original movie. I think they did a wonderful job at a prequel. Of course it will never beat the original, but it's perfectly scrumptuous.

The Holdovers was dull, disappointing and predictable.

It’s a remake from an old movie that wasn’t that interesting.

Anyone seen Saltburn or Meangirls? Curious.

Yes, I saw them both.
Mean Girls is fun -- it's based on the broadway show, so it's a musical. The one lead is from the broadway show. My daughter and I both enjoyed it.
Saltburn -- what can I say? I was honestly bored at times. I wasn't offended. There were a few compelling scenes. there were a couple of laughs (but mostly I didn't find it darkly humorous enough). The cinematography is interesting. Rosamund Pike steals scenes. It's def not a film for the masses and I can't recommend it.

Did not realize Mean Girls was a musical. I thought Salt urn might be too avant guarde for me. I’ll wait for both of them on pay per view. That’s what I usually do anyway.

Saw American Fiction this afternoon. I thought it was pretty interesting and different. Can’t really say too much about it, as I’d probably give away the story. The acting was really good. Parts were very touching and close to home. Anyway, I’d recommend it.

I watched Anatomy of a Fall. The french put me to sleep several times. It's so soothing! I texted my friend who also confessed to falling asleep and having to rewatch the movie. Neither of us were super impressed and were mostly disappointed in the film overall.

Poor Things ! A little long and portions are too drawn out. We get it. But, acting, sets, music. A very different movie.

I did not like Poor things at all. Yes, Emma Stone was and is an amazing actress. But….If you go see it, be forewarned, too much nudity that bordered on soft porn to me. I would not recommend and do not understand why it is Oscar Nominated (which was the only reason I went to see it)

I switched it off after 15 minutes. I guess I’m not as cool and edgy as The Academy because I thought it was Weird, weird, weird.

IA, started watching Poor Things on Hulu (was surprised it was on it). Very surprised. What a weird movie. Why would it be nominated for anything?

I enjoyed it, but it certainly didn't feel like Oscar material.

Highly recommend Arthur the King and The Beautiful Game. Both are watchable for all ages, you will know the ending (somewhat) yet enjoy everything about the movies. Link to my mini reviews on both. https://intrepidoaks.com/2024/04/03/o-jogo-bonito/

Fall Guy is a fun light hearted movie. Stay for the after credits scene

I just saw Fall Guy too! So much fun and definitely, a love letter to stunt people. Agreed, stay to the after credits scene. You won’t regret it. My only downside is that it could’ve used tighter editing, but other than that, I enjoyed the movie immensely. Just a fun couple of hours that made me smile quite a bit.

A side note, I predict that this will be a huge movie, mostly due to Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt. But, mostly, Gosling. He’s definitely having a moment following Barbie with this movie. I read that, after having kids, he made a concerted effort to change the kind of movies he signed on to. He wanted his kids to be able to see them. We, the audience, reap the benefits of that decision.

I agree! I would have not had that split screen back and forth in the middle of the movie. I felt it brought down the pacing but right after that part it was pure action all the way til the end.

I’ll have to check it out. Movies these days are so heavy and complex. I’d like to see something like this.
I just saw The Holdovers, I reccomend, although predictable.

Honestly I was a big disappointed in Planet of Apes. I love the original so much. And then the three prequels to this one (Rise, Dawn, and War) were better than this one, IMO. (I just rewatched them.) Still worthwhile if you're a big fan like I am. And I loved the little throwbacks to the original movies. So, a lukewarm thumbs up.
