Saw this movie yesterday with hubby and DS. LOVED it! Takes place during the Cold War, between about 1957 and the early 60s. Tom Hanks plays an attorney hired to defend a Soviet spy who was captured in New York. Jim Donovan (Hanks' character) wisely recommends that the Soviet spy not be sentenced to death, but should be held as security against the eventuality that an American spy could be captured by the Russians, and he could be used in an exchange.

Not long afterwards, Francis Gary Powers, an American U2 pilot, is shot down over Russia and imprisoned as a spy. [These are all historical facts, so not spoilers.] The movie chronicles the negotiation between James Donovan, representing the Americans, and the Soviet officials to achieve that exact exchange Donovan had foreseen.

This was pretty much a "feel good" movie. Reminded me of Argo, as it was a rescue-type plot. The audience actually applauded at the end.

As long as it's at least 10% accurate, that will be a huge difference from Argo which was mostly fantasy. The reviews have all been really good, it's definitely on my list of to-sees.
