Monster's Ball is now out on video. Had to check it out since Halle won the Oscar for it. It was well deserved. She did a great job. Billy Bob, too. Warning, though...you will see soft porn between them.

Behind Enemy Lines (Owen Wilson/Gene Hackman) is on tape/dvd/pay-per-view right now. Excellent movie!
My husband wanted to see this when it was out in theaters, so I went, reluctantly, but really liked it, so we watched it again last night. It was just as good the second time around.
Its high energy with just a little touch of humor, (hard to explain) and Owen Wilson's acting skills just keeps getting better. Love him!

We missed this when it was out in theaters so we rented it and watched last night.
Spooky, scary, creepy!!!! It was based on actual events, so that's what gave me shivers.
I think the story line with Richard Gere might have been fabricated for the movie (not sure about this) but there were actual sightings of this "thing". (the Mothman) I vaguely remember reading something about it a while ago.
If you like this type of movie then go for it. Even though it creeped me out I liked it. The two hours went by quickly.

hallo, for a Reeeally great scary movie, check out "The Devil's Backbone" it's foreign, spanish and subtitles can be annoying, but go ahead & give it a try! dvd has helpful director's commentary that makes it worth a second viewing

Bigd - I, too, enjoyed Billy Bob in Bandits. I thought he was fabulous in Slingblade and cannot even believe it's the same guy.

Monsters Inc. is great. My daughter has been watching it non stop since we picked it up last week. (it has replaced our well-worn copy of Shrek) Cute shorts before and after the movie also.

Ice Age is *finally* out on video/DVD! I just rented it and have to say I like it even more than Shrek or Monsters Inc. If you have a DVD player, Disc 2 with all the special features is well worth checking out. It's amazing how much work goes into making this kind of movie. It would make a great Christmas gift.

No. I hadn't even heard of the movie before. (I live under a rock.)
My husband went out and rented it. I think that certain actor is a great actor.
Sometimes when you watch a movie and have no idea what its about or who is in it, you enjoy it so much better because you have no preconceived ideas about it.
A lot of times, I won't read reviews of movies because the reviewers give away to much of the plot and it never lives up to the hype.

I always try to see movies before I hear anything about them. I like the story to unfold not knowing anything. I saw The Shinning that way and didnt even know it was a horror movie. Now that was something!

I definitely agree about enjoying movies more when I know nothing about them. Next to reviews, trailers are bad for giving away too much of the story. I can practically piece together what will happen and they can spoil a laugh or twist. Right now I have blinders on before I see Star Trek Nemesis next week.

Stuart Little 2 in 2 days!!!!!!!We saw this in the theatre,and it is so cute! The babe had a fit towards the end,so I never saw the end of it! I can't wait to get the DVD and see the extras!

Anyone else like me who waits to see movies for the first time when they come out on video/DVD? Two excellent shows I've rented recently were Lilo and Stitch and Unfaithful. One show I wasn't so impressed with was XXX though.

Curious, We go to the big screen for movies that have panaramic and stunning visuals. There are some films that just play better that way.
LOTR, Moulin Rouge, Chicago, Titanic, Gladiator, Harry Potter and Spiderman pop to mind.
Usually, charactor driven movies we leave to pay-per-view. Like Monsters Ball, Riding in Cars with Boys, Life as a House, etc.
(I am looking forward to seeing Unfaithful, it hasn't come to pay-per-view yet)
On another note:
I agree about seeing a preview/trailer so many times it ruins the movie when you do finally get to see it. One that comes to mind is Bruce Almighty with Jim Carrey. It looks funny, but I don't know how many more times I can see the trailer before I don't want to see the movie. <reminds self to take a walk when this preview plays next time>

Webkitty, I think you'll like Unfaithful. Come back to the movie section if you want to discuss it after you've seen it. To me, there's interesting aspects to talk about.
I haven't been to the theatre in a long time, but someone at work was saying how the poor kids had to sit through over five minutes of trailers before Harry Potter started. Sheesh.

5 minutes sounds short! I recently went to a movie at there were almost 15 minutes of commercials and previews. I enjoy the previews but that was a bit much.
I'm like Webkitty. I try to make sure I take a trip to the theater to see movies that have a big visual impact. Also, if it's something that's intense, like Memento, I try to see it in a theater so I can be fully absorbed in it.
With a 1 year old I rarely get to watch movies at home anymore, but I used to see tons that way. I've found that I seem to like a movie better if I've seen it in the theater. I don't know if that's because I can get disctracted at home or maybe it's just the popcorn.
I liked Unfaithful a lot. I'll be disappointed if Lane doesn't get an Oscar nod for this one.
