A little rough spots in the writing for me, but still good overall.

Agreed about the rough spots in the plot, but we eventually got to where we were meant to be as viewers.

Can anyone tell me why Maddie says “we are not friends” at the end? Just because black lady’s (forgot her name) dad said the same line to her that black lady said to Maddie?? Makes no sense to me.

I thought she said it because she had her bosses lap top which had the last voice-mail from her recently dead father and the woman had not backed it up. When Maddie says it I get the deep need to keep separate from the leaders in the law firm because she is going after them for the document that helped the drug company pump out addictive drugs 10 extra years.

It makes sense to me. In that moment when listening to Olympia's dad say the same words of encouragement that Olympia said to Maddie, I know i had the feeling of a parent being there for their child, supporting them in a great way, which makes me want to root for them too... but then Maddie paused and regrouped that this was one of the people she is going after and thus can't get attached to emotionally. So she used the other words to herself that Olympia had said to her too - we cant be friends.

I felt the same way. Maddie and Olympia were beginning to bond over having lost a loved one and Olympia quickly shut that down, saying "we're not friends" so in the end Maddie felt badly about having the only recording that was such a treasure for Olympia. She thought for a split second how can she return it to Olympia. But then remembered her goal and turned Olympia's words back on her and said "we're not friends"

I like this show too. The only issue I'm having is that it seems the talking is speeded up to cram so much in a short amount of time they have. I don't get a chance to catch my breath or fully absorb what is being said. And I don't have commercials when I watch. I really like the actresses who play Olivia and Sara (the Asian coworker) Oh, and I loved the Merkeet character! I'm wondering what they are going to do for next season. I'm assuming she will solve this mystery by the end of the season. So, she will have a new mystery next season. Will it still be 1 crime a season, or a new one every week? Will she still be working at that law firm or somewhere else? I can't imagine her being able to stay there, but I like a lot of the characters. Oh, well. Just a few of my thoughts.

I love Kathy Bates. And Olympia. But the writing is a bit scattered and unrealistic. I wish I loved it more. The cases do not grab me like they did in Bull or in L&O SVU.

Julie, I agree with you about this show and so many others.... the writing always seem off... inconsistent storylines and characters acting, well, out of character. Like what was with the usually compassionate Matty yelling at that poor man whose child was missing?

It’s just sloppy. Very low effort.

Regarding the scene where she yelled at the man whose child was missing... the way I interpreted it was that was that he knew her true identity... and when she saw her boss she panicked and abruptly ended their conversation because she didn't want her cover blown. My heart did go out to the poor guy... and I really did expect her to reach out to him before the episode ended.

Yeah, Cass, I think there were ways she could have handled that better... and like you, I did expect her to reach out in another way.

I figured she's starting to crack under the pressure of getting caught and the emotions of losing her daughter hitting her hard from talking to him. She lost it and had to cut and run. I'm hoping the writers tie up this loose end.
