I enjoyed the first episode, but I pay enough for Direct TV, not going to pay for All Access etc. If there is nothing interesting on the 200+ channels we get, I will read a book.

I'm with Jeep and Lazylu. We already pay enough for cable or Direct. In my opinion, this is just another sign of the greed some organizations think they can get away with. Nickel and dime us to death! Even though I've been a life long fan of Star Trek, I will find something else to watch or do!

I agree it’s a real shame this isn’t on network TV in the U.S. A quality science fiction show that could probably get good ratings.

As much as I love the ST franchise I'll not pay to see this.

I don't have cable or direct tv. I pay for Amazon, Acorn and CBS All Access. My total bill a month is 21 or 22 dollars. My cable bill was 5×s that and I was only watching about 5 channels regularly so cutting cable was the better choice for me. I usually cancel All Access after BB but kept it this year to watch Star Trek.

I think that may be the way of the future, Sunnyday.

If you have someone in the family that is a huge sports fan, that wouldn't work, would it?

Thankfully I lost interest in sports long ago. All Access is now showing the NFL and they show college basketball I think. I can also see ABC and NBC shows the next day on Roku, so it works well for me. But I don't miss cable as long as I can watch my PBS and British mysteries on Acorn.

Thanks, good to know. I still don't think I could talk my husband into dropping the cable.

Lazy if he's a big sports man you probably won't have any luck, although Sling does offer sports.

We dropped cable last year, got a Roku stick, already had Netflix, and signed up for CBS All Access because pretty much everything we watch is on cbs. Only thing we miss is BBC and that is only Doctor Who's new season (the others are on amazon prime). 25 bucks a month, so much cheaper than what the cable bill was espeacially since we weren't watching most of it.

Thanks Dipo! That was very interesting about the look of the Klingons. It's amazing how much work it takes to make someone look like that.

There are just too many choices for this old gal to wrap her head around. TV offerings have just gotten too splintered and spread too thin. I think eventually it is going to sink for lack of viewers to go around.

I'd be tempted to drop cable, but hubby will NEVER agree to it because: FOOTBALL. We have the NFL channel and the Red Zone. Extra $300 a year, but I guess there are worse addictions than sports.

I went to antenna TV 4 yrs ago. I have that, netflix, and sometimes I use my brothers hulu. If you REALLY want to cut cable, look into a Fire stick with an add on called Kodi. You can watch EVERYTHING.

I've been a Star Trek fan for about 52 years (!) and I think Star Trek Discovery is a great addition to the franchise. The most surprising thing is that STD (an unfortunate acronym, btw! ) has me totally hooked because the story is so intriguing and the show is visually stunning and I love the cast. Sci-fi is my favorite genre and this series is done extremely well....but oddly enough, it's "The Orville" that I have realized is the show that has actually become my Star Trek fix! I love both shows but, to me, Orville is just more Star Trek than the new actual Star Trek! Go figure. Either way, I'm in sci-fi heaven.

I will not subscribe to CBS All Access. Although I am a Star Trek fan, I do not like their method of trying to lure customers. They tried it with the spin-off of The Good Wife and now Star Trek.

SanFran, thanks for the tip. I will check out Orville. I am a huge OG star Trek fan and, Galaxy Quest was one of my all time favorite comedies. I thought Orville might have been too much of a parody but I all check it out.
