I just discovered this show on PBS Masterpiece Theatre last week. Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Sherlock, is an awesome actor. I loved his reaction in last night's episode (Hound of the Baskervilles)when he felt 'fear'. It was so painful to watch, but very very believable. The other thing that I like is that they have really modernized this Sherlock Holmes series, much more than Elementary (which I also enjoy). Sherlock has Aspergers and one of those minds that never forgets anything. His habit is nicotine, not hard drugs. The stories are based on the original books, but really modified to be realisitc today. I read in EW that the guys who are writing the series have written for Dr. Who... I can see the similar creativity between the 2 series. I love that there are so many Sherlock Holmes movies and TV shows. They are all so very different, but I think that I like this one the best. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else was watching this one.

So far there have been two seasons of three episodes each. Season three is going to air in the UK either late this year or early 2014, so I doubt we'll see it here before February at the earliest.

Okay, I must have come late to Sherlock. I thought this was a first run on PBS.

Well it's interesting that PBS has been rerunning them, because the BBC has been rerunning them too... there's a chance this means the two channels are trying to synch up a bit as this is such a big show, and we might not have as long to wait after the BBC airing. Maybe wishful thinking ;).

Let's hope, Kitt! I keep seeing things from the BBC about the show. They showed a clip of Sherlock walking in to see Watson. I won't give away anything to those that aren't as far yet. It will be good.

I like this version of Sherlock too. The actors are so good and there is lots of action! It was a good idea to update this venerable character.

I went ahead and watched the Baskerville episode again. I had forgotten a lot of it and enjoyed it all over again. The writing is superb and the plots interesting. Plus the casting of Sherlock and Watson are perfection.

Season 3 starts on Jan 19th on PBS. Beware of spoilers though as it airs from Jan 2nd in England. They've released a "mini-episode" to go before the premiere, it's in the link: http://tvline.com/2013/12/24/sherlock-season-3-mini-episode-video/

Over the holidays we saw the latest "Hobbit" movie, in which Benedict Cumberbatch portrays Smaug (via motion capture), and Martin Freeman plays Bilbo Baggins. They have a lengthy scene together where they play a game of verbal cat-and-mouse; I wonder if they enjoyed working together in a different venue.

The stories are very entertaining, but it is Cumberbatch and Freeman who make the show outstanding.

Just a reminder that this online offer expires 1/19 - I was afraid I missed it & had put off watching the first episode. I don't normally watch shows intently but just have them on in the background. What is amazing is that this character was based on a real person, although the person was a doctor not a crime solver & could diagnose people using the same type of deductions shown on the show. My fav line - Sherlock - "I'm not a psychopath ... I'm a high functioning sociopath, do your research" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9sUVrVS4co What amazed me was his logic but he had no clue about the woman asking him out. Although he knew all the "facts" he couldn't deduce the interpersonal element. Makes me want to do the research lol
