I know it's not timely since season 3 won't be airing until Dec or January on PBS, but has anyone else watched season 1 and 2 of Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman? I'm a fan of Robert Downey Jr in the movies, Jonny Lee Miller in the CBS show Elementary but I really, really like B. Cumberbatch's version of Sherlock. I feel it's more of Doyle's vision of his mannerisms, perceptions etc though of course it's set in 21st Century London. I love the mystery, and it's truly mysteries in this series. There are only 3 episodes per season so it's "Quality over Quantity" again per BBC's standards.

I LOVE BBC's 'Sherlock', Scotchbright! I also enjoy each actor's interpretation but Cumberbatch's is extra special. I really enjoy Martin Freeman as his Watson too. I wish we didn't have to wait so long for season 3.

Fans of Great British Bake-off: There's a really good show airing right now called The Chef's Protege, in which students at cooking schools compete to be the protege of three Micheline-starred chefs. It's now about half-way through the series (you can see all the episodes on watchseries-online.eu) and it's been some pretty great TV, very much in keeping with the spirit of Bake-off: the drama comes from the contestant's desire for excellence rather than some outside force. The chefs are incredibly good at teaching the would-be proteges, too. I recommend it highly.

Does anyone know if Law & Order UK is coming back? It seems like it has been at least a year since the last season.

Both Whitechapel and Ripper Street are on our DVR. I like that they're both based in the same geographical area, just in different eras. Great shows, we're looking forward to their next seasons!

Oxies, I've never tried Whitechapel, but love Ripper Street. Is it currently on the BBC schedule?

Whitechapel - not on the schedule now, Season 1 is available on netflix, more than likely amazon too. (The DVR has been set, we're just waiting for it to come back again.) the local library might have it also, I think ours did.

I went to the Dr. Who thread to see if it's been posted that Matt Smith has quit and will no longer play Dr. Who, but I don't see it reported there yet. I enjoy Matt Smith for the other things he has done, but not Dr. Who, so it's not horrible news to me.

All three seasons of 'Whitechapel' are available for streaming on Amazon Instant Video... FREE for Amazon Prime members. I'm ready for season four! I think they filmed it at the beginning of this year, so maybe we will have it late this year or early next.

I enjoyed Call the Midwife very much. There's a lovely article about the real nuns who were the midwives here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2100169/Were-Call-Midwife-nuns-Real-life-sisters-inspired-popular-BBC-reveal-story.html

hey thank you for that article Puzzled. I was taught by nuns from elem. to HS and I can only wish they were as kind and generous of spirit as the ones portrayed in this show. Mother Superior is a dream.

Anyone also watching Ballykissangel? Its a cute little show about a tiny little town in Irland. I often find myself watching these shows to get away from the violence and commercialism of regular tv. They are just kind and sweet. Oh and also this show has a young Colin Farrell in it, which doesn't hurt lol.

That aired on British BBC (or maybe Channel 4 or whatever) earlier this year, I think. I wanted to like it cuz I'm an unabashed Gordon fan, but I really felt let down at the end of the series.

The good news, though, is that if you choose to watch it, it's only, IIRC, 4 episodes. So you don't lose too much time

Cumberbatch is spectacular as Sherlock (he can convey an emotion with the slightest twitch of his face). Colossus is having a grand old time dissecting which original Sherlock stories are being combined or culled for each episode. (We have the series on DVD).

Just saw "The Reichenbach Fall" final episode of Season II - Sherlock Holmes. It was awesome - Colossus has read all of the books and was still crying for the last 20 minutes of it. Great series. Can't wait for Season III.
