I have gotten so many people hooked on this show, I was cussed by a vendor yesterday because she had been up half the night watching catch-up episodes LOL. \I live to serve.

Willwillbee: The color lilac used to be worn for mourning. Black was worn for a recent death but after a period of time women would switch to lilac.

Thanks for that info Terolyn. I couldn't figure out why they weren't all still in black. I had no idea lilac was also a mourning color.

Technically women wore black for the first year then moved into lilac but this was typically for widows. I assume because it is a sister/daughter they were able to move to lilac quicker.

From all the English novels I read I knew about the lilac for a certain period of mourning. I thought they all looked so lovely. The costume designer for DA is a gem.

Just learned something new. Never heard of lilac for mourning. I also found it jarring that they were all in the same lilac shade for the christening. Glad to have that explained. Thanks!

I'm with all y'all on the Ponzi line. I was going to post immediately, but I was cozy under my blanket and didn't feel like unwrapping myself from the warmth. Seriously.

Slightly off-topic, but Queen Victoria wore black for the rest of her life (something like 30 or 40 years) after her beloved Prince Albert died.

Methinks that lady had a bit of a loose screw to carry on so long.

Dame Maggie Smith is being interviewed this coming Sunday on 60 minutes. Regarding the Victoria article: I don't know how much of that is true, but she sure always had such a sour expression on her face that I'm tempted to believe it is all true.

By all accounts, Victoria was a toxic mother.

I've heard cats make better mothers than Queen Victoria. I recently read an interesting book on the five granddaughters of Queen Victoria who went on to become queens themselves. For anyone who is interested, here is a link: Born to Rule - Amazon.com ETA thanks for the info on Maggie Smith, OG - I'll be sure to watch for it!
