I totally agree he has done tons of tasteless things I don't agree with, but I realize there is more to him then the occasional dumb stuff he says on the air. I will end with this. A quote said today by his costar Robin Quivers, who has known him over 20 years. She is someone who knows the "real" Howard. He had just given her a thoughtful Christmas gift. “If someone was ever lucky enough to be able to call you friend or have you befriend them, they would be rich indeed. You are an amazing human being.”

What he said about Columbine wasn't tasteless. That diminishes the effect it had on those of us close to the tragedy. It was mean and cruel. I don't care if he's nice to some people. That doesn't in any way excuse the awful things he has said and done; and that he in no way should be in a position of judging young people. If he wants to have a perverse radio show and take advantage of people, and people choose to listen to him, whatever. But this is not an appropriate position for this man.

IMHO Stern doesn't belong on a family-oriented show any more than Captain Kangaroo belongs in a porn video. I hope this shock-shlock-jock is only a one-season-wonder on AGT, and is then replaced by someone more appropriate for the next season. I wonder how Sharon, Howie, and Nick are reacting to this news?

Howie and Sharon are friends with him so they are THRILLED at the news. Nick...not so much. Since when is Sharon Osbourne family friendly? This is the woman who sent a box of her own feces to a critic. She is a classy woman so of course it was in a Tiffany's box Yeah, I'm glad you all approve of her as a role model for children. If someone is mean to you kiddos just send them a box of your feces. Oh and another thing the kiddies can learn from her is when your husband cheats on you, you immediately go sleep with their best friend/band mate. Now that's family values! Why are her actions good and acceptable for a family show?

I'm amazed Sharon's been able to keep her mouth clean while on this show. I can see her being thrilled at Howard's hiring. They are both cut from the same cloth...absolutely course and classless. I have no trouble believing the feces story either. Just sounds like something she would do.

I always thought the choice of Sharon was questionable also. However, to my knowledge, she is not a purveyor of pornography. If Sharon was somewhat over the boundary for acceptable, Howard is in another continent. I don't know any stories of Sharon exploiting other's sexuality, nor do I know of any cruel comments about how young teenage women should be raped, instead of being shot. The fact that rather than focusing on the terror of these young women, he saw them as attractive says more about Howard Stern than anything else. Young women fleeing for their lives are hot? Really? That's just beyond sick.

Regardless of who is judging, I don't enjoy these talent competitions that allow kids to compete and then show their grief when they are judged not good enough and then eliminated. I've always been reluctant to watch America's Got Talent for that reason and I've barely managed to stomach my way through X-Factor.

I don't watch this show but just came across the article saying that Howard Stern will be the new judge and wanted to see how people here were reacting. I used to listen to him on the radio on my way to work every morning and watch his TV show in the evenings. Yes, he can be a pig. But he is a VERY intelligent man, especially about world affairs and politics. And for anyone who doesn't think he has a heart, go Youtube his coverage of the 9/11 attacks. He loves his country and especially his city of New York. He was THE voice in New York that day, the only connection many people had to knowing what was happening. As concerned as many New Yorkers were about more attacks, he chose to stay on the air to try and calm the masses, putting his concerns about his own safety aside while the chaos was at its worst

No one said he was all evil. Just part evil. You've gotta be a sick sonovagun to even think "I would have sexed them to death" about terrified teenage girls; let alone say it out loud. So, yeah, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Yeah, like I said... he can be a pig! But I think his pig behavior tends to overshadow the fact that he is very intelligent and like someone said above, very professional

Lots of sick folks are very intelligent. As for professional, not so sure. He's been fined, kicked out of Canada radio, kicked off public radio in the US, and censured by a state legislature. Doesn't seem to be so professional to me. I don't think being financially successful at being a pig is "professional." It just means he's good at being a pig.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnL0_yGWX1g Here is Howard's explanation to Columbine quote and it seems what was said was taken completley out of context. It starts around 2:55 and it totally makes sense to me. It seems it was a competitive station that started the whole controversy. Here is more and he has a point. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2cDkSAcGAYs&feature=related I figured this was case. He spent 4 days condemming the acts and one stupid, tasteless comment taken out of context is what is focused on. I hope you listen to both, especially the second one in full. It shows the human part of him the fans gotten to know.

How can you take "I would have sexed them to death" out of context? Really? How can there be any rational context to saying that teenage girls fleeing for their lives were "good-looking?" That's just nuts. He is pointless, and floundering to defend an indefensible remark. Again, that he made the comment at all was cruel and beyond excuse. Instead of apologizing, he defends his sick remark. I'm not about to listen to 23 minutes of his self-inflated idiocy. There was no reason to bring sexuality into this horrific crime at all. But that's how he sees the world. That's about Howard. Maybe he should have just not made his 'stupid, senseless remark.' Poor Howard, the victim.... <shaking head>

I think it's funny that this is another show that so many say they will no longer watch. It's the judging on DWTS, Kate on J&K Plus 8, and the list goes on now to include this show because of Howard Stern as a judge. At this rate, TVCH will have to close down because nobody will be watching anything!

I listened, I find him repulsive. As I said, poor Howard the victim. Radio stations in this market carry the news, and they report on it. It's not some competitive conspiracy to get poor little Howard kicked off the air. I was here when Columbine happened. I spent months afterward counseling teenagers in our local schools, terrified to go back. Howard is not the victim here, and it is absolutely repulsive that he tries to make himself out to be. The real victims died, or lived in wheelchairs or spent months in recovery; and many of the students at that school and surrounding schools suffered years of post traumatic stress. The fact that he is whining about this conspiracy against him, is *exactly* why I don't like him. This is what he does, makes it about him. He is the height of hypocrisy. When he does shocking things on the radio, it's 'cause he is who he is. When other people do things he doesn't like, well, that's all about him too? Please. He should have just apologized. That's what a real man does.

Frogi, perhaps you ought to watch THIS Youtube, as they laugh and giggle about what the killers were wearing, and "how cool" their outfits were: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtRDisKhtd0

Frogi, to be fair, I have looked for his comment that I posted above "in context", but am unable to find one. I listed to about 35 minutes of Youtubes of his Day 1 coverage of Columbine, and that's as much as I could take. Most of it was again all about Howard, as someone (from his staff?) apparently thought it was hilarious to call a Denver news station masquerading as a hospital employee treating some of the victims. But it was a prank call, which quickly turned into a prank accusation of Howard Stern as the shooter. Yeah, he was sensitive. Joking about the shooters' clothing and how cool it was; and how they'd eventually have a band named after them "Trenchcoat Mafia". And endless coverage and replaying of that prank call. Mr. Sensitivity.

Not everyone is good 100% of the time, not everyone is bad 100% of the time, how we judge them is our tolerance of certain behavior. I have had persoanl experience of revulsion listening to this man and do not care to ever listen to him again even in a cleaned up version, he is a shock jock and likes to shock people, I don't happen to like that, Tastes vary, no amount of arguing with me is going to change my mind on this issue. I can disagree on politics with someone and they might convince me on some topics to change my mind or may correct misstatement and that is welcome, but in this instance, since it is about entertainment, I don't care to give him another chance. I hope the people who enjoy stern enjoy watching him on AGT, I can't imagine they are the usual audience for that show though.

But it was a prank call, which quickly turned into a prank accusation of Howard Stern as the shooter. That was not a staff member. He is a guy that does prank calls and listens to the show. He does them on every major news story. The point was how the news people don't bother vetting the people calling in their show as experts.
