Interesting that Josh's first statement was edited. I wonder why? http://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/tv/josh-duggar-admits-being-unfaithful-hypocrite-after-ashley-madison-reports-n413276

For the record, I would like to say that 1. I in no way blame Anna for this. 2. He can have all the affairs he wants, but it is his hypocrisy that bothers me, and that is why I feel I can talk about him and/or his parents.

Josh has harshly judged others for their "sins" while at the same time committing similar sins so people are more likely to harshly judge him because of that hypocrisy. Plus generally people online (not people here) tend to go ballistic about everything with no sense of restraint. It's an ugly combination.

Josh is a big ole hypocrite, living a double life. His wife would likely never cheat. The Duggar matriarch seems like a good, sweet person, the daughters kind women but they live a closed , repressed life. I have no tolerance for hypocrites like josh Duggar or Jared Fogle.

Well, Lilfair, I believe they believe that God forgives what you repent from. If you are gay and not repentant, then yes, that would be an issue for them. I personally don't believe that being gay is a sin for which you should repent. However, Josh's beliefs seem to be consistent with their religious view, whether you agree with them or not. BTW, I don't need the internet to say the Duggar's are filled with hate and all sorts of creepiness. It's not about calling them out for being hateful towards gays, or creepy in his sexual deviance. No problem with that. My issue is the *rage* that I see on the internet every time something catches the nerve of the public. This is quite different than yakking around the water cooler or talking over the fence. The internet is all over the world in an instant. And it is anonymous, unlike fence chatting. As I have noted, several times now, there is a difference between criticism and hatefulness/evil.

I feel terribly sorry for all involved. Josh grew up in a very strange repressive household, and when he molested his sisters, instead of getting him real help, they covered it up and the girls were brainwashed/convinced it wasn't that big a deal and he had changed. However, if they really thought Josh was cured, why that crazy room arrangement in the new house? Essentially, Josh had few consequences. Have to remember, too, that his world view was severely limited. Then he was married off young, to a young girl whose world was also limited. She's had one baby after another while her "lord and master" got into porn and extramarital sex. Josh got a high paying job, and life in Washington must have been quite a shock for this sheltered Duggar. Like someone else said, I hope and pray that he gets real counselling, but I doubt it will happen. He's apologised, and it seems that in their world that makes everything right.

My hope is simply that we never have to see anyone from this family on tv ever again. No tar and feathering needed - Just simply let them get jobs where they have to live off of a minimum wage like so many in this country do.

Well, Lilfair, I believe they believe that God forgives what you repent from. If you are gay and not repentant, then yes, that would be an issue for them. Kar, that sort of thinking regardless of where it comes from - some god is exactly what people should be outraged over. I can't think of anything more dangerous than saying an entire group of the human race are full of sin. What is their next step? I know they work hard to not let lgbt adopt children, they don't want this group of humans to teach, they don't want them to marry who they love. I can't think of a better reason not to be silent. I'm an atheist will I be their next target. Atheists can't marry, teach etc? Yes it can get ugly but not as ugly as degrading a group of humans because they don't believe in the same sort of god as they the Duggar clan do. We don't even need to bring up the perverted hypocrisy .....that's just the icing on this cake.

Lilfair, as I noted, I disagree with that point of view also. However, I was commenting that some were finding it hypocritical that he could be forgiven for his sin, while others could not. That's not how it works. In his world view, he would need to repent from his sins, just as they say gays need to. Perhaps it is hypocritical that he wasn't *repenting* and he continued to engage in behavior that he KNEW was sinful. But it is not hypocritical to think he can be forgiven IF he repents. That's consistent. At any rate, I'm not advocating anyone be silent. I have worked VERY VERY hard in my own church, and denomination (even traveling to New York to testify) concerning gay marriage. I just don't see any need to villify anyone. Just educate them. And some of them just need a lot more educatin'.

Lol gays need to repent just as Josh who molested his sisters and another child....no I don't think so. The duggars can believe that, no problem. But they can't tell others/ like the lgbt community to repent like molesters. No, not without outrage from the pubic and nasty vile comments will be voiced. This is not a civil conversation....telling folks to repent along side child molesters That Is Evil and Vile. There are times in history when pleasant conversation no longer work.

Lilfair, I think you are missing my point, so I'll just move along. I will just say nasty, vile comments indicate nasty, vile people. They are never warranted. IMO.

Good grief, there's no comparison between what Josh has done and being LGBT. Being LGBT isn't a sin.

Puzzled, yes, I understand that. Does anyone actually read my posts? In *their* belief system, gay behavior is a sin, just like molestation is a sin. Both of which require repentance for forgiveness. I also said that *I* don't agree that gay behavior is sinful. I don't know how to make it any more clear.

I don't know why you're having a go at me, Karuuna. I was simply stating my belief, and it has nothing to do with your post.

PUzzled, it must have been the "good grief" and the fact that you addressed the very issue I was speaking about that made me think you were speaking to me. I don't know what you mean about "having a go". I was having a conversation, that's what folks do on discussion boards. Right?

Peeved is the way you read it, it's not the way I wrote it. As indicated by the smiley face, which I used to indicate it was a good-natured question/comment. Like this one! Peace to you as well.

kar, i hear what you are saying. i appreciate you trying to be fair. the whole situation just makes me sad. i watched the Duggars and liked them for the most part. i am able to watch programs that i may not always agree with but might enjoy for various reasons. I think many people watch the Kardashians not because they agree with their lifestyle. there were many things i disagreed with the Duggars about. But i always felt they were genuine in their beliefs. what keeps resonating with me with the Duggars is Jesus saying 'he who is without sin, case the first stone'.

Thank you, Texannie. I appreciate that. Most people are a mix of good and bad. I always try to remember that. And as a therapist, I have learned that sometimes the people that are very hard to take, are ones that had very difficult lives and experiences. We know how the Duggars are portrayed, we know some of their beliefs, but we don't *know* them. I feel quite confident in criticizing their view of homosexuality, while not condemning them totally as human beings, with both good qualities and failings.. That's all I'm trying to say.

Seems he has now admitted to cheating and porn.. LINK
quote:After news broke on Wednesday that Josh Duggar apparently had two Ashley Madison accounts, the embattled 27-year-old former lobbyist released a statement on Thursday revealing he has become addicted to viewing pornography. "I have been the biggest hypocrite ever. While espousing faith and family values, I have secretly over the last several years been viewing pornography on the internet and this became a secret addiction and I became unfaithful to my wife," he writes. "I am so ashamed of the double life that I have been living ... " Josh Duggar

before the internet, there were letters to the editor, the truly ugly were for the most part not printed. And in between were the bulletin boards, where you had to pay a fee to belong to the private server boards, I was overwhelmed by the misogyny on those boards. even though it was about discussing computer problems, I quickly learned to join and sign in as my husband. if you go back far enough you would see the people cheering at the burning of the witches in Salem. Ugly has always been with us, twitter and on-line comments just makes it easier to reach strangers.

I thin the Internet and its anonymity and group think makes it much worse, and it's on a much larger scale.
