How was it? I heard something about Katy Perry not returning? Is that true? Anyone know how it will change things?

Katy is there this season so there's time to fill her slot. I saw a couple of singers I liked. But it's not like last season where it seemed like everyone was incredible. I liked the football player and the girl who sang a slow "Signed, Sealed, Delivered". The adopted girl at the end was pretty good, and her story was so sad.

They showed Katy's sister visiting the show next week, and I can't believe how much they look alike! This is my own capture from a recording.

The woman is actually the mother of contestant Dawson Slade, not a relative of Katy's. It was a confusing segment with all the drama going on.

That is the contestant's mom and she certainly does look a lot like Katy. They did show Katy's sister too, but that was a completely different part of the show and her sister does not look too much like her.

The daughter of one of the worst Bachelors tried out tonight. Juan Pablo's daughter. He was in the room for her audition. I didn't think she should have gone through, but I think they put her through just because her dad was on an ABC show.

The 3 hour top 20 show is this Sunday. I'll wait until then to pick my favorites. But I can say now I do like the country selection this year. I remember in the early years how Simon hated country music would groan when someone started singing a country song.

Jelly Roll as a mentor was amazing. The first night singers were just horrible, except a couple of them. Their mentor didn’t seem to have her heart into it. Most of the second night contestants were good, with Katy, Bryan and Lionel being blown away, quite often, with the growth and change from the last time they sang. Clearly, it was because of JR.

Jelly Roll was so fun! I still can't pick a fav, but I have to say I was so happy for Julia at the end of the show. I teared up for her.

I changed my mind. Here is who I am thinking I like so far. Kennedy, Kayko, Triston. I wanted to like the McKenna, but her adoption story is wearing on me.

I’m officially old, I don’t recognize 90% of these songs.

Lake, I agree. Plus, a number of the contestants are singing their own original music.

I didn't agree on all the picks that made it to the end. But as we all have seen, it's sometimes more about the story than the voice. I do think song choice is am important equalizer. It sometimes is the only reason someone gets through. There is a much higher percentage of people singing their own songs than any other season in the past, this year. Very different that the shows at the beginning where people would go out because they were forced to sing a genre that totally didn't fit their voice or style.

I can't believe Nya didn't make it through. She's not one of my favorites, but I recognize she has massive talent. I really like Triston, Will, Emmy, Kayko, Mia, Kaibrienne, and my numero uno is Julia!

So, I didn’t get all the Kayko love tonight. I thought he was off tune for most of the song. Yes, he had energy, but I wouldn’t call that a great performance.

I bit my thumbnail down to nothing waiting for Julia's name to be called for final 10! Of course they called her last.

Naja, I'm rooting for Julia too. She has been a singer with a band started by my daughter's classmate. She is really good, and her stage presence has improved a lot. If anyone has Instagram, you should check out juliasingsabit. She and Abby are roommates and make funny videos. In a few of them, they read each other's hate mail and try not to spit out the water they're holding in their mouths when they laugh. I think it's a healthy way to deal with the mean comments.

AI on at 5 pm again with Shania Twain as the guest mentor. I hardly recognized Shania.
