American Idol Season XX Premiere Date: Sunday, February 27! There are some changes this season.... Bobby Bones isn't coming back due to another show. Some guest mentors will be filling in for him including Bebe Rexha and AI Alum Jimmie Allen. This season there will be 3 "Platinum Tickets". One for each location. It will let them go straight to Hollywood week. https://parade.com/1244585/paulettecohn/american-idol-2022/

Another article says 9 of the platinum tickets were given out, 3 at each location, so I don't know which is right.

Naja, Jimmie Allen is an AI alumni??? I don't remember him at all. What season was he on? I never heard of him till I saw him on DWTS. He was great on that show and seemed like a really nice guy.

I just watched his Ellen interview. He said he made it to top 40 and was cut when they went to top 24.

Interesting show so far tonight. The woman with the little girl voice was a surprise when she sang. And I was surprised they did not put Aretha Franklin's granddaughter straight through. I bet she was really surprised and disappointed, too.

I didn't really see anybody that stood out for me except Cole. He's the guy with the little sister with the chromosome problem. Wait, I also liked the country the with the guitar. The one whose buddy signed him up and they were teasing him that he's the manager.

Aretha’s granddaughter was not that good. Maybe it was nerves or something, but she was off key a bit. She needs more practice.

I only got to see 2 auditions before Dish TV gave out because it snowed less then an inch on the dish. I will be so glad to dump Dish TV when the weather gets better.

to clarify, I had no problems with the contestants - just was one of those "can i just hear them sing and not waste all this time" days....

AI is the only show where I tolerate it. It's the only show where we truly see them go from nothing to something. All the other shows they already start out all polished and professional, so there's no need to see them at home and watch them grow. AI feels like an actual journey, and the other shows don't feel that way.

DH has very little interest in the back-stories generally. For me, it's often the best part...

Lots of good singers tonight. Really liked the one from West Virginia. I think that's who I'm thinking of.

I absolutely LOVED that fella with the deep voice. I can easily see him as a country star. He's like the guy from The Oak Ridge Boys, and his voice is much more pleasant than Trace Atkins. I also enjoyed the shy girl with the cap that said she was from the boondocks, and for her second song she sang an Adelle song. I hope she goes a long way. I didn't think the platinum ticket girl was all that great. She must have sounded different there in the studio than what I heard.

I didn't think she was all that great either. I liked the boondock girl, she brought tears to my eyes and so did the guy with his mother in the hospital. I also liked the guy with the deep voice. He reminded me of Josh Turner and the kid that won a year or so ago, I forget his name.
