No comments on the first show tonight? I don't know what to think, no one singer has yet blown me away, the judges seem mostly out to convince us they are getting along. Some they have gushed over makes me wonder if the speakers are blown out on my tv. One larger guy who sang and then went into a high falsetto.. the looks on the judges' faces, my reaction and the fact that my cat sat up in her bed from a sound sleep and was twitching her ears at the sound.. well I was amazed that then they gushed and sent him through.

I thought it was a pleasant show to watch, not very suggestive like it was with Steven Tyler. I could see this as a family watching show again. Heck, I could watch it again, and I don't like the audition shows in general.

Oh for sure.. I appreciated Jennier's outfits.. cute but not attention getting in any way. I suppost that will change on the actual shows, but this was better. And for sure no Stephen with his sexist comments and none of the drama of last season. I've just never seen a first audition show with so few "wow" singers.

It's nice to see that they are getting back to the contestants instead of the "diva" contest of last year. This year, I think that Keith Urban will be able to relax. I don't know how he handled being on the panel last year. I would have quit.

I think that we might be coming off a great The Voice season. Those people are all established singers. That's why they sound like "wow" singers from the outset. Many of the people we are seeing on American Idol are early in their career. It's likely that they will grow and get much better as the show progresses.

I haven't watched in years ...didn't know it was on and stumbled onto it last night and I was hooked...lol. There seemed to be a few very interesting and talented folk. I think I will watch this season. The judges all seem to get along and for me that is a plus.

I watched last night and I thought it was the best audition show I've seen in years (keeping in mind that I didn't watch last year). I thought Savion was excellent but there were also some pretty good ones in the mix...I think they didn't stand out as much because we weren't subjected to a montage of horrible singers so the good ones didn't seem nearly as good in comparison. I think Harry Connick, Jr. may be the best judge in years - he is so intellingent, interacts well with the contestants and has a great, self-depreciating sense of humor. Hilarious when he picked that guy up after he sang and held him like a baby. He also happens to be right about that oversinging crap - it has been a pet peeve of mine for years. I don't think the woman from Georgia should have gotten through at all. I thought the interaction between the judges was excellent and appropriate. I also thought it was funny how all the contestants just fawn over J-Lo. She handles it very well in my opinion.

I thought it was a very good show and a massive improvement from last season. Intelligent, friendly, helpful judging and no stupidity. My favorite was the guy that Sea mentioned (near the end). Lots of talent and potential there.

I watched and was very impressed with the first show. I love Harry and think he is such a great addition. I laughed so hard when he cradled that one kid! All 3 judges have very good chemistry together. Looking forward to a good season.

I also was really impressed and hopeful for this season. Last year was such a debacle and disappointment. The audition process is my favorite part of the show, and last night was great. I am so happy to see they are going away from the random awful singer. I never thought that added anything! Keith and JLo call the contestants "baby" at times, and did you notice at the end, even Harry was calling the contestants "baby". Cracked me up!

Harry Connick Jr is a breath of fresh air. When he was trying to give the one girl constructive criticism and JLO/Keith cut him off. I thought that was interesting. I don't think he will hold back once the main performances start.

Love the judge panel this season. They seem to genuinely like each other and are not out to one up each other. And they are very knowledgeable. I also like that they have cut down on the number of bad acts. One of the things that has peeved me so much over the years in all of these shows are the contestants who basically waste a once in a lifetime opportunity. Silly outfits and songs that do not showcase their talents. Just sing a good song that you can do really well. And any singer who sings their original material is taking a big chance. Once in a while it works like the girl who wrote the song about her grandfather, but usually it is a disaster. There did not seem so much of this sort of stuff this time. Hopefully the producers have decided to weed out most of it. Good for them.

It was nice seeing them all get along. I enjoyed it. From the previews, it looks like Harry is going to be considered the mean one this year. (I mean by comparison to the other 2 judges). From having seen him be a coach on this show, his type of mean isn't the extreme kind like we have seen in the past, but he can be a little rough.

I read an article this morning and he said that he always emphasizes that it is the performance that he doesn't like - not the performer.

Jimmer, yes! That guy had a lot going for him, including a mom who found something he could love to do.. So many of them chose songs that almost had no melody, or they didn't sing a melody but more sing/spoke. And some who did seem to have a good personality were rejected as needing more time, etc. But that kid woke me up! Seemed to have personality, he could sing, play guitar, a good look. Of course this may not hold up, but MORE LIKE HIM is definitely what we need to see. And of course some were put through without us seeing or hearing them. As for the endless joking about kids who don't know who Harry is.. that sort of negates them if they claim to have been watching AI and dreaming of being on it since they could walk and talk, since Harry has been on as a mentor in the past.. and surely once they did hear his hame, even at the audition, they all have smart phones, for the most part, or the person next to them does.. so GOOGLE him! This is a job interview.. prepare. It was funny when Harry found one song a big much for a 15 year old, but Jen and Keith have younger kids.. I expect Keith and Nicole will be protective of those girls. JLo.. hard to say since her current taste is to have young boy toys around, but she may mature as her kids do the same. I do agree with Harry about the oversinging and wish Keith wouldn't side with Jen so often.. Harry is giving good advice. And kudos to the young lady for actually asking him what he had been going to say before Keith and Jen shouted him down. He did say he'd tell her later. The kid Harry picked up was either rehearsed or very quick on his feet.. I like to think he was the latter.. I think a touch of tough love is worth SO much more than coddling and gushing.. you don't want to create the Emporer in "new clothes" .. that is only necessary if you are stuck trying to stay alive around Kim Jong Un or someone like that. Hopefully there will be more good ones tonight.

Wow, Nikki McKibbin is back to being as tiny and cute as she was in season 1. (her son auditioned tonight and made it through) Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew really helped her I think.

I think Harry adds a breath of fresh air to AI. But, I still miss Simon. He was a bit harsh but truthful. Harry is more truthful than JLo who loves everybody and Keith barely opens his mouth except to agree with JLo.

I post on another board where there are fans on Nikki and they say her mother's death through overdose really helped straighten Nikki out.

Nikki looked out of it to me It was good to see her but something was off about her. Her son was a cutie!! Not sure he has great potential to go far, but will be fun to see him in Hollywood.
