Ohhhhhh, Wilson, I did not realize that Julie is SAG/AFTRA.
Well that certainly puts an interesting spin on things. And in light of Pamy’s very good question, if the former HG are not union, would one of them be able to take over the hosing duties? Would that be considered crossing the picket line? Could the season be cancelled due to the SAG/AFTRA strike, as they were hoping to use BB to circumvent the writers strike?
SO many questions!

Okay, but once they are no longer “contestants” and become BB famous (lol) can they join the union? Like if they are used for promos, or to sell potato chips, are they considered actors?
I guess if they are not union they could technically host, but I feel like that would still cross the picket line.

Being an employee does not necessarily mean that you’re in the union. You can be non-union and still work, but without union protections and benefits.
Which means that if you are non union and you do work for a unionized production like BB, then you are crossing the picket line.
From what I understand, there are 8 uber wealthy network executives holding us hostage.
The vote is supposed to happen on Thursday.

Julie was a news correspondent years ago so I am sure she is in the union.
Rosem, that is what I was thinking, if they aren't in the union then they could host. BUT I would think they need writers. Writers write what Julie says so I wonder how they would get around that

No, lol...hold on. The question was, can BB contestants have the opportunity to get a Sag card, only from being on the show.
I wasn't saying all employees are part of a union. Rather, you have to at least be an employee to be part of a union. Where as, if you are a reality contestant you are not considered an employee. Therefore, you don't even satisfy the minimum requirement to be able to join a union.

I had to remind myself how the live move in worked, so I looked at the TVCH thread for last year’s premiere. It immediately brought back all the disappointment, lol
They go in 4 at a time and are thrown into a comp. Ugh. I wanted them to enter and meet each other organically.
They also spliced DR commentary into the comp, so it couldn’t have been live.
I take back my “OOoooooohhhhh!”
One of my own comments in that thread stated that I liked Paloma and Jasmine more than I thought I would. Look how wrong first impressions can be. Haha!

I do an about face almost every year lol The HGs I start out liking, I end up despising. I did however feel bad that Jasmine's feather suit got all the goop all over it, during the first comp after live move in.

Apparently the strike guidelines exclude reality shows (it’s under a different contract), so SAG-AFTRA people can work with no issue

As I get older and more forgetful, the TVCH archives are invaluable!
I now…..uhhh….”remember” that we don’t get live feeds until after midnight EDT. Which is helpful to me for scheduling sleep. I was reminded in the archives that last season I was very sleepy when the feeds started.
Now I am just hoping that they actually do give us first night feeds and not mess around with us!
