So far released: Pictures of the house, the theme is "Culture Clash" or "Big Brother Village," depending on what article you read http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-4559852/Big-Brother-2017-pictures-new-house-revealed.html The first six housemates http://metro.co.uk/2017/06/02/big-brother-2017-line-up-first-six-housemates-revealed-with-husband-and-wife-sisters-and-stripper-6680501/ There are also meant to be some Z-listers in the house (people some will be vaguely familiar with).

Thanks Kitt, same here, don't know if I'll watch, I remember when I could watch live with VLC media player, it was fun, but then the link was lost and had to look for the episodes on youtube before they were blocked. I'll try to find the first episode on June 6, usually the opening is fun to watch. I like the theme of the house, British Garden, a clear departure from past modern setups.

Bit sad that it's come to this. I wonder what the ratings will be this year. Last year they had about 1.6 or 1.7 million viewers per episode, which was actually up from the previous year.

Well they seem to be going with one of our twists... The audience is going to vote from a list of HM's (but not the ones who were revealed on Friday)- the winner will become the "People's Housemate" which will have "great power", including outside contact (so it's likely an America's Player sort of thing): http://www.bbspy.co.uk/bb18/news/0605/big-brother-2017-confirms-peoples-housemate-launch-twist-reveals-diary-room

It should be easier with all the possibilities of streaming tv channels around the world (I live in Canada but I am tuned to some Italian tv channels, it's like I'm living there). Joker's site are suggesting to get a VPN but I heard that it interferes with email server. Also, to try BB Viewer (which I enjoyed for BB Canada), I opened BB Viewer and you can only see an eye for now. Someone may upload the opening episode on youtube and we'll have to hunt for that one.

I am watching, it looks like the pairs that are going in are not playing as one they are playing as individuals. So far there is a husband and wife pair and a mother daughter pair.

And that was a really fast find on youtube but the audio was lousy. It's a big mix of cultures... you don't feel like they come from a place under attack as you see in the news. All happy, not just the players, but the audience as well, and the host as always so gracious and elegant. In a few days we'll notice how much they'll fight and their ugly side. You can't avoid that on Big Brother.

Well considering BB Canada is "on hiatus" for 2018, BBUK is the only one that'll be on between BBUS seasons next year... And if that People's Housemate makes it more than three evictions without production helping him, I'll be shocked...

I put some Bios in the other thread. It'll give us their names even if there's not much other info there. I did watch. Some definite misses there (as in hits and misses), but maybe the real them rather than the hyped up version will be better. I didn't like the People's Housemate at all. Bad attitude, I thought. None of the four were a good choice for people's housemate, I think they need someone more cunning, but again it's hard to judge when they are playing to the camera. I'll probably get behind but I'm going to give it a go.

BBviewer is working, right now is the BB talk show that follows the tv episode, I was out earlier and I may have missed the 2nd episode of BB on the BBviewer. I wonder when the US BB starts how is the BBviewer going to show both UK and US, unless there is a way to switch to US feeds from the same player. I'm not too excited about the housemates this time, I remember some blow ups with that group that Helen, the one everyone hated but won in the end, right? I thought that group was interesting.

I finally caught the tv episode on BBviewer, Kitt gave the time, I guess that is not the local time but our time, here it ended at 4 pm. Bots is going to start soon. However, I have the 'common' itch to use a remote when I want to speed up and it drove me nuts having to wait, so I was streaming an Italian talk show (that I never miss) while watching the BBviewer. Nuts!!! I think I'd like to watch when there is an eviction show.

The times I posted are board time, so Pacific time zone. But they do change sometimes, especially the further we get from the date I posted. And it's the UK election tomorrow so although Ch5 doesn't do much news if something unexpected happens it could be delayed. I haven't seen today's yet, but so far no one has offended me... although no one has grown on me.

basically the first week was that The People's Housemate had to choose people to go up for eviction after he got a chance to talk on Facebook Live. After that, he assigned tasks to some of them to possibly change his mind about them being up (and replace them for someone else). After the list was finalized, the audience voted- but only for the possibility to evict. Once the top two was determined via the eviction vote, The People's Housemate made the call as to who to evict. His choice was between the husband of the husband and wife HM's and the mother of the mother and daughter HM's- he booted the mother, as he thought the daughter would be able to open up a little more if she was gone (and she was getting a bit embarrassed by her mother- as part of a task in revealing secrets about each other she found out her mother and father had made a sex tape that had made it's way around the neighborhood back in the day)

What is up with this cast and dropping the C-bomb… constantly? I'm no language prude, but that was one word you just never had to worry about hearing - now it's about as common as the F-bomb. It's really bugging me. I'm bored with this one so far -- no tasks really, it's been the Arthur show for days, and the HMs in general haven't been very interesting. It doesn't seem like anyone else is watching either!

I've watched a bit of the nominations on BBviewer, such a great tool for watching BB but for this BB is almost a waste of a good thing, they're not a very likeable bunch, the culture clash is evident, (is it really this diverse the population in England?, don't know if it's a good thing if everyone keeps fighting, and not only in the BB house. Oh well, but they could have chosen better looking people and with more interesting personalities.

Not really sure what you mean by is the UK this diverse... if you're talking racially then definitely yes, at least in larger cities and university cities. Small towns with no "pull" to attract new residents will mostly still be people who've lived in the same town for generations. (In fact this has led to some interesting populations, like towns full of old people, where the younger people have gone to the bigger cities for a wider variety of jobs, or have left for university and never returned.) Or if you mean types of people, not necessarily grouped by race, then the answer is yes, BUT people of the same type tend to be from the same cities. Like the older guy is an archetype that would really only be found in London, but there are lots of him there and none in Manchester for example. Not a real "posh" person this year, but there are lots of posh people but they would probably only be found in the counties West of London. (Hard to give examples with this case as predictably I am already way behind, so don't know the hms very well.) It's not that the country isn't that diverse, it's that those people wouldn't normally be interacting. But that's the way it is on most BBs I think.

Thanks Kitt, I knew I could count on your input on this 'diversity', society has changed a lot with unlimited immigration and the same thing is happening now in Italy, another very small overpopulated country but with many small villages almost abandoned and now filled up again with immigrants from Africa. Only time will tell if this is a good thing or not. I'm all for all types of races in one community but when they are totally integrated with the native population and respectful of the laws. The BB house is trying to teach this and hopefully we will see a more peaceful interaction among these different races. Still, I would have preferred to see more 'intellectuals' among the housemates.

Well remember the big cities in the UK have always (since the 50s maybe) been pretty diverse because citizens of countries that were once colonies have often been allowed to move to the UK if they wanted. So we have a lot of people from the West Indies, like Jamaica, a lot of Indians and Pakistani. Jamaicans have always been a part of British society, at least in my lifetime, and the London-Jamaican accent is extremely common and is pretty much considered a British dialect. The Asian communities have also been very integral to the UK, if not integrated. They've always been very respected because they have an extremely good work ethic, plus their manner - always so polite and respectful of women and elders - fits in well with Brits (or at least those over 40). What's new are the Eastern Europeans who've come over the last few years. They have not integrated well, and also (I seem to remember typing this before, so sorry if this is a repeat) are allowed to claim public assistance even while in temporary status, which has caused issues because it is draining our economy so much. Difficult situation as they're in need too.
