Jeff's rant doesn't surprise me. A lot of straight homophobic men don't realize that every gay man is not a pervert. If I remember correctly there was a problem with race and sexuality in Jeff's season directed at Kevin.

I've read the Harry Potter books and nowhere in the actual books is there any indication that Dumbledoor is gay. Nothing. J.K. Rowling announced that out of the blue after the books were published.

Of course, Jeff is still wrong if he thinks that a teacher or headmaster shouldn't be gay.

Jeff's point was that it is wrong for a teacher of children to be gay. He made his disdain for gay people very clear. And I definitely do not agree with his point.

i've just relistened to the Jeff rant. i actually missed something. When first hearing dumbledore is gay Jeff blurts out its perverted and says SHow me your balls harry potter.

so the suggestion was a gay guy would be 'after' the kids.

Christiii - actually that is not a dress, it's a shirt - just ask Brendon and Dani - they were commenting on it a little while ago. How she was giving them shots when she sat down......

We can agree to disagree. I heard his point differently.

I don't think a headmaster in a boarding school in a fantasy book for children should be either homosexual or heterosexual. He/She should be a headmaster/mistress.

Scarbizz, Richard Harris and Michael Gambon who played Dumbledore were both happily married! Just saying

Ok...delurking to address what Jeff said. I think he was more put out with Kalia's political corrrectness. He did not say a gay man should not work with kids. He was more put out that Kalia wouldn't acknowledge that it would have been odd had Dumbledore been obviously gay in the book and or movie. Kalia, as others have pointed out, tends to comes off with "clean" and politically correct answers. My 2 pennies.

Hmmm, Kalia said that the author wrote Dumbledore to be gay. It may not have come across but in the authors mind , he was.

Jeff said no way would someone write a book for little kids where they are locked away with a headmaster who is gay. Little kids living without their parents. He doesn't think that is right.

Dani snarks on everyone. Brendon is joining in with Dani and instead of extolling his fiancés good points, he is constantly pointing out or agreeing with someone who insults or brings up her bad points. Rachel has been a good sport but I doubt it is getting past her that Brendon is continually insulting her and cozying up to Dani.

Keldogg, thats how I heard it...that there should be sexuality addressed like that in kids books....of any sort. Thats how I took it, not that gays shouldnt teach, but that in a childresn book, you should label a character as gay...or, bi or straight for that matter.

I agree with keldogg. People are blowing this out of proportion. Did dumbledorf have sex in any of the books or movies? If not how is it at all relevant. Perhaps jk Rowling chose to make dumbledorf gay but that is a completely arbitrary and unnecessary fact. I can see why Jeff would react the way he did. It is an inappropriate set of circumstances to be concerned about sexuality. He might have felt the same way if he was told dumbledorf had hookers come over every night.

Just as much as there is nothing in the books to suggest Dumbledore is gay, there is nothing to say he isn't. That is the beauty of it.

My two cents....

Jimmer JKR did announce Dumbledore was gay, from an interview:

JKR: My truthful answer to you... I always thought of Dumbledore as gay. [ovation.] ... Dumbledore fell in love with Grindelwald, and that that added to his horror when Grindelwald showed himself to be what he was. To an extent, do we say it excused Dumbledore a little more because falling in love can blind us to an extent? But, he met someone as brilliant as he was, and rather like Bellatrix he was very drawn to this brilliant person, and horribly, terribly let down by him. Yeah, that's how i always saw Dumbledore. In fact, recently I was in a script read through for the sixth film, and they had Dumbledore saying a line to Harry early in the script saying I knew a girl once, whose hair... [laughter]. I had to write a little note in the margin and slide it along to the scriptwriter, "Dumbledore's gay!" [laughter] "If I'd known it would make you so happy, I would have announced it years ago!"

I just now caught up on todays post--Its just so sad about Jeffs comments--someone mentioned he was catholic- we have all heard some of the ugly things that happened to lil boys at some of the catholic church schools--I am just thinking out loud here--do you think he may have gone to one for a while and something happened to him or a good friend and that topic brought up very bad memories for him--he felt so very strong about the subject--like I said--I am just thinking outloud..

I like Jeff so much that I hope there is a reason why he said it in such an angry manner. He has said that he now looks bad for what he said, I hope he talks to Kalia and clears the air.
