Thanks for spoiling, Herckle! I'm on the west coast too and won't get to watch for a little while yet. I hope Amanda goes home. She has never been a favorite of mine at all. I also think Kady will go this week too.

Why Carly Hen? She doesn't sound like a chicken. Far from it.

Ah, so you don't like her because she was a singer in the past? Or just her voice?

Great job reporting HP Brooke and Carly were the only ones I really enjoyed. I like Kristy's personality (prob best) and Journey is my all time fave band ... so I really really wanted to like her performance .... but thought that she butchered Faithfully. How can someone (Randy) perform with Steve Perry, and then think that was good??? LOL.. could not believe Syesha did another song about adultery. Lol at R, P and S's reactions. Looking forward to her debut cd, guessing it'll be called Homewrecker

Thanks, Rvon and Sharinia!! Shar, I was so surprised about your characterization of Love is a Battlefield that I googled it to find out if I had misinterpreted the lyrics all these years. According to a synopsis of the video, it isn't really about that at all (well, in my mind it's not, anyway, after reading the following): Pat Benatar "Love is a Battlefield," 1983 The video begins with Pat riding a bus, having just been tossed out of her house by her dad (“You leave this house now! You can just forget about coming back!”). As she walks from the house, her little brother watches her leave, looking crestfallen. When she gets to the big city, Pat takes to the streets, wearing a collection of torn, gaudy skirts and frilly belts, which symbolize freedom, but, sadly, also prostitution. As she walks the streets, bumping into people, the video occasionally cuts to a shot of her dad, who apparently is having second thoughts about her expulsion. Pat takes a job at a nightclub—ostensibly a club of ill repute—and during a break, writes a letter to her brother; when he reads it he lays back on his bed and looks wistfully at the ceiling. Back at the club, her gold-toothed pimp/manager’s ill treatment of a fellow employee prompts Pat to rise up in solidarity and form a synchronized dancing troupe with her fellow callgirls. Shimmying ensues. Lots of synchronized shimmying, with exaggerated shoulder twists and faux finger snaps. Then the ladies of the night dance like geckos, with legs apart, arms up and shoulders back, thrusting forearms and knees forward with the beat. The music soars, the electronic drums go duh-duh, duh-duh, and Pat punches the air and yells, “We are young!” She begins a dance-off with the pimp, singing, “Heartache to heartache.” The pimp, despite having a dancer’s physique, is no match for the feisty Pat. She dispatches him in less than ten seconds, finishing him off with a glass of gin in the eye. She celebrates her victory with more shimmying. The video ends with the dancers faux finger snapping their way out of the club, into the night. In the next shot, it is morning and they are near a freeway, still dancing, thrusting arms to the sky. Because of Pat’s victory in the dance-off, they are free of the pimp and are now able to follow their dreams, so each woman gives Pat a hug before departing. Pat takes the bus back home.

HP, Love is a Battlefield was Brooke's song. . . Syesha sang Saving All My Love For You SAVING ALL MY LOVE FOR YOU (Whitney Houston) A few stolen moments is all that we share You've got your family and they need you there Though I've tried to resist being last on your list But no other man's gonna do So I've saving all my love for you It's not very easy living all alone My friends try and tell me find a man of my own But each time I try I just break down and cry 'Cause I'd rather be home feeling blue So I've saving all my love for you You used to tell me we'd run away together Love gives you the right to be free You said be patient just wait a little longer But that's just an old fantasy I've got to get ready just a few minutes more Gonna get that old feeling when you walk through that door 'Cause tonight is the night for I feeling all right We'll be making love the whole night through So I'm saving all my love for you Yes I'm saving all my love Yes I'm saving all my love for you No other woman is gonna love you more 'Cause tonight is the night that I feeling all right We'll be making love the whole night through So I'm saving all my love for you Yeah 'm saving all my lovin' Yes I'm saving all my love for you, for you

and of course last week, she did. . . ME AND MR(S) JONES Me and Mrs. Jones We got a thing going on We both know that it's wrong But it's much too strong To let it go now We meet every day at the same cafe Six-thirty and no one knows she'll be there Holding hands, making all kinds of plans While the juke box plays our favorite songs Me and Mrs. Jones We got a thing going on We both know that it's wrong But it's much too strong To let it go now We gotta be extra careful That we don't build our hopes up too high 'Cause she's got her own obligations And so do I [...]

Oh, my mistake, Sharinia! You are right! Saving All My Love For You is just beautiful, melodically, though. I am thinking she chose songs that show off her vocal range, rather than ideals. Course we all have to draw the line somewhere, eh? (I don't hold with songs that treat women like objects or use profanity excessively or praise a sleazy lifestyle.) Yet I have to admit I'm mesmerized by the song, It's Hard Out Here (for a pimp)--not by the words, but the music. So, in my mind, music can be good even if the lyrics are 'bad.'

I love "Saving All My Love for You." It was one of my favorite Whitney songs. But you would think these girls would think twice...or three times...about singing either Whitney or Celine, since they are usually criticized for attempting the songs. Personally I like that song "Flo rida" and some song by Kanye West that has very suggestive lyrics...its not the words of the song, its just the way it is sung that finds me singing along with them.

You'd think that after 6 seasons of this show the girls would listen to the judges when they say "You shouldn't do Whitney/Celine." It's like they have never seen this show before.

My favs were Brooke and Amanda last. This was the first week I really liked Amanda. I find them to be very unique. The rest to me either aren't very good, or they are good but are a dime a dozen, which means boring to me.

I didn't watch last night, but I've seen in a couple places people questioning if Paula was drunk. Does anyone have any Youtube links of last night's show?

It will be a miracle if Idol doesn't cut Paula after this season. I don't know how much longer they can keep her on. My favorite Paula-ism this week: You are special and unique... just like everyone else.

Saving All My Love For You is just beautiful, melodically, though. I am thinking she chose songs that show off her vocal range, rather than ideals. I have always loved the song because of the melody -- it's in my collection, and I enjoy singing it around the house. But after hearing 'Me and Mr Jones' last week, the message struck me as more than incidental. Twice in a row?? There are kazillions of great songs from the 70s and 80s to choose from. It seemed like she cherry picked the two that romanticize infidelity. I'm pretty sure the judges were thinking the same thing (their reactions made me laugh) jmho

I liked Amanda a lot last night. I liked Brooke, too. Some of the others sound too similar to each other (to my untrained ear).

"You'd think that after 6 seasons of this show the girls would listen to the judges when they say "You shouldn't do Whitney/Celine." It's like they have never seen this show before." It doesn't stop the thousands of people who think they can sing from auditioning every year. The girls probably really think they can do Whitney/Celine/Aretha proud - and sometimes they have pulled it off.

I don't think Paula brings anything whatsoever to the show. We always FF through her inane remarks/comments/critiques (not that you can usually call them critiques). She embarrasses herself when she sways while standing (as if in a drunken stupor). What does she bring to AI?

Paula does frustrate me in how she takes forever to say something but I do think she gives good advice and makes the singers feel good. For that matter, what does Simon or Randy bring? I think Paula is sweet.

I think that Paula is sweet as well, however, she does become more incoherent as the season progresses for some reason.

I really liked Carly and Amanda last night. I liked Kristy Lee's country interpretation of Journey's song, but absolutely HATED Brooke's interpretation of Pat Bentar's song (please don't mess with perfection!). I wasn't impressed with Asia'h or Syesha all that much. Didn't like Ramiele at all, thought Kady was bor-ring. I think Kady goes for sure. Any of the others except for Amanda and Carly can go, too!
