Either last week or the week before AI focused their Idol Cares snippets on the work they do in the states. So they do not only help overseas.

I love Dolly Parton. LOVE HER, but think she should have let some of her real age show through. I think women who age gracefully are beautiful and women who go overboard trying to fight it are losing an uphill battle. JMO

But that's part of Dolly's persona...she has always been "bigger than life" throughout her career. She has never made any disclaimers about being anything other than what she has invented herself to be. She credits it to being so poor in her childhood -- she likes dressing in flashy clothes and wearing lots of makeup and having lots of hair -- and the highest heels possible. I'm not surpised she hasn't changed. And her personality seems to be so sweet...she's just amazing.

Has there been any talk about the Dolly/Simon stress that I noticed? I could be wrong but I don't think Simon liked Dolly's last song at all. Is it just me or was there some tension in the house?

Idol Gives Back is going for a good cause, but it seems like we, the poor and middle income people are doing most of the giving. Am I wrong about that? Does American Idol give? How about people like Bill Gates and Donald Trump? How about people who make a million dollars a movie? Sports stars? And so on? Where are they? Are they helping? Many of us here in the U.S. can barely make ends meet any more with these high prices, yet it seems we are being asked and doing all the giving. I had to vent, sorry.

Okay, I have a question schedule. It is scheduled for three nights next week. How is that going to work if the Idol Gives Back is being taped on Sunday? Tuesday - sing Wednesday - ??? Thursday - ??? And do we know if there is a guest mentor this week? I wish they posted the schedule on the AI website. I never know who is mentoring on any given week.

On the AI site, it shows the times for each of the 3 days and lists the Idol Gives Back program as running on Wed from 7:30-10. I also saw a list of coming mentors earlier in the week, but couldn't locate it just now. I'll keep looking. Here's AI's website article about Wed's show: How you can support Idol Gives Back 2008 IDOL GIVES BACK, the historic Emmy Award-winning television event and music celebration airing Wednesday, April 9 (7:30-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, will raise awareness and funds to benefit six charities. including: the Children's Defense Fund, The Global Fund, Make It Right, Malaria No More, Save The Children, U.S. Programs and the Children's Health Fund. This year's event, beginning at a special 7:30 PM start time, will be bigger and more ambitious than ever. Robin Williams, Celine Dion, Forest Whitaker, Billy Crystal, Dane Cook, Kiefer Sutherland, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Jennifer Connolly, Elliott Yamin, Fantasia and Amy Adams join previously announced international talent and sports figures Bono, Brad Pitt, Reese Witherspoon, Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey, Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Fergie, Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Annie Lennox, John Legend, Snoop Dogg, Maroon 5, Heart and Gloria Estefan. During the show, viewers will be able to make donations via toll-free lines and the Internet.

I was absolutely thrilled last night to see the Clark Brothers! They rocked it! I also felt that the right person left. IMHO next to go should be Kristy. Oh, and I wouldn't change a thing about Dolly Parton because then she wouldn't be Dolly Parton. The clothes, the big hair, the makeup are practically trademarks for her.

I think that the remarks about Simon and Dolly came from the other night when Ryan asked Simon what was the matter didn't he like country music. Simon said he loved country music but something about the night's performances. Then something was said about him not being welcome at Dollywood. I think it was all just joking. I love her voice and her music. She is a genius when it comes to writing songs. He has that knack for storytelling through songs and a "way with words," that is like none other. And I have always loved her version of I'll Always Love You better than Whitneys. When she sang it in the movie, I was bawling. She looks remarkably well for being 63 years old. Just a few years younger than me, and God, I wish I looked half as good. One remarkable thing about Dolly is how she used to be pretty hefty. Not really fat, but not thin either. She went on a diet and she has kept it off all these years. And she did not need any boob enhancements either. LOL

What surprised me this week was how much better I liked Christi's performance better than Syesha. Syesha's song is one of my all time favorite songs and it always makes me cry. While I thought it was OK, it did not move me. But Christy's performance of Coat of Many Colors did move me to tears. By the way, did you know that there is a children's picture book that tells the story of the song. It is a beautiful book. I had it in my classroom, but found it hard to read, because it always made me cry. And invariably some kid would choose it when it was their turn to choose a book for me to read. LOL I am beginning to like Christy more and more each week. Problem is that the others are just better singers. The only ones she might outlast would be Jason and Syesah, but I doubt it. I look for her to go this week, unless she just has a killer performance.

That's what I was thinking Kitt. Now whether or not they eliminate anyone on Thursday remains to be seen. I don't remember last year's event being three nights.

It was two nights last year. But I remember them saying how awkward it was to have the Gives Back stuff intermixed with the usual elimination "tension," so I think that would be why they decided to separate the two this year.

Herkle, the blond country boy was Bucky Coventry, I think from season before laat. Went out about week six or seven I think.

....ahhh... that makes sense. So Wednesday night's show (which is being taped on Sunday) will have no mention of elimination... then it is possible there could be an elimination on Thursday night.

Very happy to read Idol Gives Back will be be on separately from the competition and elimination. That way I can skip watching. The concept of Idol Gives bothers me as I think they should just donate quietly on their own rather than beg from the public. Charity, IMO, is such a personal thing and the public aspect of the Gives Back show turns me off.

I thought they did not have an elimination the week of the Give Back show. They said it would be too cruel to send someone home on such a happy night.

That's right Allie, but last year it was only two nights. This year the show is three nights so there could be an elimination.

Herc (or whomever it was who commented on Carly)... I think she's more popular than you imagine. I know they are holding Idol viewing parties here, and she's got quite a large fan base (both expats and Americans).

I won't be watching it either. I have various issues with the whole thing, but hope others enjoy it.

Herc, the blonde country singer was Bucky Covington from AI season 5. He placed around 7th or 8th that season and is having a good deal of success with his first cd.
